They say the games industry has taken a nose dive recently and that's probably my fault (and people like me). Pay (again) for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced? Fuck all the way off. Instead I'm absolutely rinsing Dark Souls 3 for the umpteenth time.

And why not! Upgraded 4K textures, new graphics card, ultrawidescreen support modded in - effectively remastered at no extra cost. Fuck you in particular, Ubisoft.

more likely its because of all the woke shite they keep putting in games.
gamers dont want it and arent buying it.
Ubisoft are now paying the price after making their mediaeval samurai a black man.

Absolute f'in nonsense. The issue is that games aren't fun now. The development times for the current generation of consoles are enormous, cost a fortune and it's hard to make money. This means the only type of game that is worth producing is the £100 AAA title. This has pushed out indie and smaller studios. Plus the large game devs somehow firmly believe that AI will solve every issue they have (which is patently not true). The consoles are not cheap enough to buy on a whim, or generally by parents who might buy one for the kids at christmas. Plus kids who have phones and other devices to play games on. There are loads of reasons why the game industry is f*cked at the moment but a few gammons boycotting the odd game here or there is really very little to do with it. You might argue that the demographic of gamers has been compressed into a middle aged white male type area, which might contribute to the quanitity of Gammons who play, but I doubt it plays any serious role in the current game industry collapse.

It's probably not unlike the 1984 video game crash, except instead of shovelware flooding the market, the cheaper indie games have fallen by the wayside meaning AAA games don't have to compete and have become somewhat bland and generic.

No I haven't. Something to do with not working on win95.

Thats the killer of some old games. Old console games? No problem, emulators generally work. But old Win 95 and Win 98 native games, especially those with DRM? You're totally out of luck unless you run a VM or something.

Evidence for the prosecution: Dragon Age The Veilguard.

Gameplay wise, I thought the boss battle mechanics were fun, roaming the world and collecting things was a bit Super Mario but I liked that too. But by the mid game I was so tired of hearing the characters whine, I was skipping all the dialogue until I wondered what was the point of it all - I literally had to uninstall it because of the "woke garbage" writing. And apparently it wasn't just me, a serious heavyweight game franchise taken behind the chemical sheds and shot and little chance of more in the series.

Contrast the story with Dark Souls series and Elden Ring. So "hands off" and mysterious, it's down to the player to speculate what's actually going on. Incidentally, the entire franchise is an absolute cash machine.

Well, I spent most of yesterday playing NFS Most Wanted and Underground 2 on my original fat PS2. I've ordered a Levelhike HDMI adapter as the one I have is a bit shit, but it works well enough hooked up to my G3. I bought it back in 2020 with 28 games for £41, Shocked.

Sold my Pro last week. After Sony wanted more verification info despite having everything they could need for god knows how long I cancelled PS+ and then when they announced ending physical media I thought they can fuck right off. My PC absolutely shits all over a Pro anyway, so never really got used as much as I thought it would. I'm actually loving being able to put a disc in and not have to fanny about and download GB's of updates and have games just work.

I've got my PS2/Gamecube/N64 connected through a retro 4x and its lovely. Honestly one of the best things outside of using composite on PS2. No weird lines, no blur.

Interesting, as I'm already down the rabbit hole Laughing.

I'm using the Kaico HDMI adapter at the moment, and the image is pretty shite to be honest, although it's playable. I've ordered the Levelhike and an mClassic (from Amazon so I can return easily if need be) and I'm going to try that out first, but I know what I'm like, I can see me getting a 5X or something.

I've already ordered a load more games for it, absolutely loving it to be honest, Very Happy.

Currently playing with... Debian 13 Laughing

I'm am thoroughly sick of Windows and its "bit rot".

https://64.media.tumblr.com/3d901661cdd968585ea226aacba4662e/tumblr_pdgsz7tqtV1xuoucyo5_400.gif

About the only thing it has going for it is Office 365 (which I need to write essays) and gaming. Everything else in my digital life is mostly done through a web browser. I'm going to see how well the web versions of Office suffice (e.g. write in LibreOffice, copy, paste to 365, save) and what games I can get running. TBH I don't play games anywhere near as much as I used to. "GTA 6 is coming out soon!!!" Meh, happy to wait 6 months for a steep discount, if I bother at all.

So far I've had a multi-hour journey getting Nvidia drivers going (would probably have been a day's work without AI assistance) but after that everything "just works". Most surprising is my cheap fingerprint reader for Windows Hello. After installing some tweaked drivers I can now log in and sudo with a single finger press Very Happy

Haven't tried Steam yet but I'm told it runs pretty well these days.

That's weird, because I've been playing Tiger Woods PGA tour 2005 on my fat PS2. I have never played golf in real life, and have never followed it on TV but have always quite liked the relaxing nature of golf games. This one is probably the best golf game I've played. It takes genuine skill, and puts no pressure on you.

I'm also playing "In sound mind" again which is a fantastic game, but the oppressive atmosphere and dark themes can be a lot, so Tiger Woods is the ultimate antidote.

There was a great golf game I used to play on the PSP. There's no rush with golf games, IRL there'll be someone tutting that you're taking to long.

Nothing lately on Game Pass appeals. I bought Brotato when it left Game Pass. I finished Dicey Dungeons and Clover Pit, not sure i will ever finish Slay the Spire, that left GP I bought it on my iPhone. World of Tanks Console is a walking corpse of what it used to be, but i play the odd coop game. Still flogging Skyrim albeit heavily modded, i spend my rewards on creation club credits. Still goofing about on GTA Online, im a GTA billionaire in a cooperative/private lobby crew, but they are pretty quiet right now.

Really just waiting for GTA 6 launch day.
