Knocked off my bike today!

Riding through Rothwell, Leeds this morning and a taxi pulled across me to turn right. Left me nowhere to go apart from into his car. The bike stopped and I was thrown up into the air, landing on the bonnet before landing on my back.

Thankfully, apart from a battered back and aching wrists, I'm okay. The bike I'm not sure about. I was stretched off and into an ambulance, leaving my bikes looking poorly.

So, my lovely 18mth old red CBR650R, with 3wk old Road 6 tyres, is now in storage after the police arranged its collection.

The positives. Police told me that the taxi driver said he didn't see me, his dashcam shows he was at fault, and there were witnesses.

I spoke to my insurance company after getting home from the hospital, and spoke to someone on overflow. This meant they took some details and I would be called next week.

I just know I'm going to be out of pocket, and it'll be a while before I have a repaired bike or an insurance cheque.

Clothing is okay but my several month old helmet won't be used again.

Aching this evening and mighty pissed off. However, it could have been worse.

I know its somewhat trite, but a bike can be replaced, you cant. Look on the bright side.

Get someone to fight your corner if there is any chance of the taxi driver trying to shift the blame.

Yes, unless you have gap insurance you will be out of pocket. It sucks. I know. I was in a crash, not my fault, with specialist insurance with a trike valued at £15k. The insurance had the value on record. Did I get 15k, did I fuck. It's all a scam.

Hope it turns out OK.

I had a similar one, witnessed by a policeman who did the driver on the spot for driving without due care.

The insurance still fucked me about saying the third party denied resposability so they couldn't assign liability. I think I used words along the lines of I could insist the moon is made of cheese but it doesn't make it the case.
