Which part does suggest that I didn't? No one has even asked what I payed for it. Laughing Wink

Yes, that's not a glass screen, I have to get one of those DoubleBubble ones. Smile That really is the sound of the can, some no-name, million millimetres in diametre slip-on. That one will also have to go in favour of something more balanced. Laughing

That last bit made me lol, please post pics when you attempt to fit a double bubble Laughing

1200 is far too much lol..

And you conclude the crash damage based on modified front fairing and completely sound forks & front end? As for the DB screen, if those two mounting bolts are so crucial, then I'll get a new front fairing spoiler. Wink

A low side can cause a broken H frame AND damaged front fairing. It didn't take a lot for that to be done to my ZX6R!

My forks were straight, true and untwisted in the yokes, tracked fine. But my front fairing was totally mullered on both sides - one from the initial impact with the ground and the second impact was with the side of an oncoming car.

The mirrors mount directly onto the H frame since it acts as a structural brace to keep the top fairing in place. The mirrors effectively clamp the top bit of the fairing and screen onto the brace which is WHY people told you check the condition of the H frame thoroughly - it's often the last thing to get replaced (mine failed at the welds so I didn't notice it until 3-4 months after the crash)... or in your case, totally absent, hence the rather unorthodox fitment of Non-standard mirrors which look like a cheap jobbie.

Sorry to put a downer on your purchase but I'd probably blame the seller for not being honest... if you knew your facts, then you could have probably haggled him more!

And the damaged side not pictured from dropping the bike - post a picture up of that.
It's not a sound front end, it's missing the cruicial supporting brace hence entire nose cone has been bodged, you need a new nosecone and H brace (which are as rare as rocking horse shit un-bent btw) to support a screen Laughing I'd have a look for a harris screen brace, easier to find.

Oh and I would wager decent money that headlight lugs are broken

1200, practically 'traded' a spare Honda CBF-500 for it. Laughing Also, ##Paddy##, yours appears to be not the Y model, K1 have a digital speedo - does yours? Thinking

Y models were the first of the "superman" types (headlight appearance) so do come with a digital speedo. Fuel injection came in much earlier - 97 or 98 on the SRAD. I was looking at Y/K1 GSXR750's /K1 Thous and ZX9R E's but eventually went for my FireBlade.

If you want to make it LOOK like it hasn't been bodged

Here's a H frame for you

That's for all your fairings

Or just the nose cone

But if you're happy with the way it looks, then that's fine, but the point we're trying to make was for "buyer beware", all too easy for a buyer to be naive and forget to check the most basics, we all make that mistake, or get told about it by our mates, or in this case, the forum.

If I saw something not cosmetically standard, I'd be probing for more questions or I would have run away and got a "mint" SRAD... or something that wasn't as molested as that but with a few scuffs... even IF the price was tempting.

Sweet Jesus. Shocked Laughing The RH fairing has a few scratches, it's back up and I'll post pics when I can. Wink The H frame could've been removed by the prev. owner due to aesthetic reasons, and about the front fairing - I can't picture a crash where the only thing to get damaged are the mirrors.

Ok you being quite retarded now so I'm going to make this very simple as to what has very likely happened with your bike.

Someone HAS dropped it on its side, this is fact and you have told us yourself, the side you have not pictured which I suspect has more damage that that from a standing stop drop. Edit: Crash bung has deffinetly saved it during low speed crash

When landing on its side it has crushed the mirror which is directly bolted to the H frame, this has screwed the mirror, bent the frame and likely snapped or cracked the 'ears' on the nose cone not to mention the damage to the lower fairing etc
Then muggins has decided it is not worth him buying a new H frame, nose cone and mirror but rather to just bodge the whole front end up.

THE END.

Those mirrors protrude by a significant distance, so based on the gradient or camber on the road, they would MOST definitely be the first things to touch down. A simple side stand drop and depending on the angle which you have you mirror set at will cause the force of the impact to be transmitted to the H frame. Mirrors effectively act as a crash bung... TRUST ME ON THIS! The frames themselves aren't meant to serve as an impact loading brace. Judging by your optimism, you haven't experienced the multitude of minor spills and mishaps so I'm just informing you of the possibilities.

Despite your bike having crash bungs, a LOT of owners tend to fit them "after the horse has bolted" to mitigate against further crashes.

In my opinion, NOBODY in the right mind would want to lop off 30% of their top fairing for "aesthetic reasons" and then put electrical tape over the rough edges and put cheapo mirrors in the wrong place, WHICH i might add, if they aren't supported, WILL fatigue the plastic and crack the fairing (I SHOULD know what I'm talking about because I'm a materials engineer by trade and a part of my work is failure investigation). ABS might be impact resistant, but if you have an unconstrained mirror just bolted onto the underside without any support - then you're just asking for trouble. Heed this warning! That's the reason why that H Frame bracing was ALL IMPORTANT!

As I said, I'm sorry to put a downer but I'm just addressing the facts. It could just be denial over a naive purchase. I bet you it was your first SRAD you saw, and you bought it straight away? Because, had you seen others, you would have noticed the tell tale signs straight away and walked away. (I was in the same position of you when I went of the first ZXR I saw when I was 18... and it turned out to be a lemon - proper money pit)

I think you like tickling my balls, but the photos are up.

I could've bought a 2009 R1 with a full Arrow exhaust as an everyday vehicle, though, I wouldn't be advertising the fact of said purchase, since that would be retarded and asking for it to be stolen, as the modus operandi appears to be in this world du jour. Wink

Oh yes,

That carbon fibre can, junk it! IT's got a creaseby the end caps. That's the reason why your bike's sounding like a dog since there is a strong possibility that it's blowing if the weave is compromised. It's probably cracked so chances are the crack will propagate and blow the rest of your can off at the very worst.

Like I said, in the worst case scenario, IF the previous owner put in crash bungs AFTER the spill, then your can would have taken the brunt as well as the mirrors! And YES, dropping off the side stand or a in-traffic 10mph spill WILL do that!

Garmin Zumo location seems logical, but there are far better mounting solutions for a Sat Nav - such as a yolk/stem mount which I have on my bike. THAT definitely would have saved the bike's fairing from being chopped.

Please read the signs which we're giving to you. We don't want you to feel disappointed when some hidden truths come you. You DID do a HPI check didn't you before buying the bike?

Yes and you can see my edit in the quote, I have pictures from my friends srad 50mph spill which he luckily got away with a bent and worn down crash bung, some scratches to the fairing and a broken rear brake lever.

That what I was talking about, soon to be replaced. Wink

Did I come off sounding like an amateur with this thread? Crying or Very sad I created this thread, looking for advice for a particular gixxer and its problems. I won't be it taking apart, unless the excellent turn in turned to crap, and the bike's not stable anymore at "um, not 60 MPH". Wink

Thanks for your care regardless, appreciated, but as said: it was dropped on its right side, standing, rolling - doesn't matter, the damage seems appropriate.

Physics. If it's such a lucky low-slide, then the person doesn't need to know. Wink

This is a longshot, as this thread hasn’t been looked at in 15 years. However, I’m looking for a particular GSX R 750y, year 2000 that was sold around 2015.

The numberplate was X215 YMX

This bike originally belonged to my partner’s late father Peter Terry, and we would love to try and locate it again.

If anybody knows the location of this bike, please do get in contact!

Thank you!
