Hi y'all

Afew years ago Pastikote Stove paint was my go to for this application as it dried to a more OEM satin finish and seemed fairly oil resistant... then they made it quite matt Rolling Eyes

The website now states that their BBQ paint (yes they do make two almost identical products!) is more satin... anyone know/confirm this?

If theres another decent product for this application then do please let me know. It doesn't really have to be 'very' high temp for this job I think.

Cheers

Yes, the BBQ stuff is more satin, still needs to heat cure. At least, it was last time I usde it which is quite a few years ago.

The simonize engine paint is pretty good and forgiving to work with.

I did the casings of my VFR with tractol machine enamel. It gives a very good finish, like smoothrite used to be before they made it shit. In a similar way, while it dries quite quickly, it takes a long time to fully harden.

It's usually brushed on but you can get it as a spray too. It's an alkyd resin which is the stuff they paint vintage tractors with and what they used to paint the frames of old brit bikes.

It can take months to fully cure and even then is a nightmare to flatten back.

Is this tractol or smoothrite after they made it shit?

I brush painted the tank on my Minsk with tractol then after about a week cut it with rubbing compound and polished it. That's the finish I got, no clear coat.

Months to fully cure seems an impractical product to me
and cant see any advantages of using something like that.

It's when you look at pre-war motorcycles that still have their original frame paint.

It's also what they paint skips with.

I did with the tank, It's got a LOT of filler in it. Not with the engine casings.
