Hi all, right I need some help with a gsxr running problem.

First off, its a 2000 (carb) model with 22,000 miles on the clock, bog standard.

Its been sat in my garage for a while (say about 6 months) and I finally got round to doing some work (camchain, fork seals etc). After doing the work I drained the crabs, filled with fresh fuel and ran it. Everything sweet so bolted it all down tight.

Now my mate came round one day to take it for a mot, took it outside and started it, after about 10 mins it died and refused to start for about 10 mins where it fired up, ran for a bit then died.

I came home, started it, found it hard to start, even on choke it felt like it was running on 3, then after a bit ran onto 4.

Now when I revved it it would rev up no problems first time, then second time it would bog down at about 5-6k rpm unless left for 5 seconds idling then do the same..

Soooo.... carbs drained, same problem... fitted new plugs, same problem, air filter is new.

Carbs off, stripped and cleaned...

Same problem... even when riding

Fuel tank apart, all filters checked and cleaned.. same problem.

I was suspicious of the carb vent into 2 solenoids into carbs again setup, so disconnected the vent from the carbs and bike would rev up fine no problem and start properly. So, suspecting that the solenoids were not opening thus creating a vacuum in the float bowls hindering the fuels progress into the engine. So I checked the solenoid action, all working ok, lines were a little dirty but I cleaned them..

Same problem... argh! and it is just as bad with the lines disconnected..

Any ideas anyone? It really is starting to do my head in!

Thanks
Paul

To be honest is sounds like a knackered battery to me.

The carbs are clean, its only 5 years old so I wouldn't expect diaphragm trouble.

Assuming you did the timing up right when you changed the camchain, my money's on an old battery.

Battery has been changed! Timing was spot on.. feels very much like fuel starvation due to the solenoids not working as they should be..

Cheers

Make sure the pipes are not getting pinched (fuel & vacuum). I had a simular problem not so long ago, the vacuum pipe to the fuel tap was getting pinched which stopped the fuel flow to the carbs.
