my rs125 is great bike to ride, but when ever i ride it to hard like over 6000revs loads of smoke poors out of the exhuast, I normally take it down to the palace pier to warm her up, and spend about 20 mins just to make sure. but when ever i ride it for along time above 6000 revs after awhile the exhuast starts to burn, (burning smoke) its a real pain in the ass, becuase i have become paranoid about going over 6000 revs, just the other day a scooter passed me, which was embarssing... my rs125 is still half power dunno if that has anything to do with it???

i warm it up till about 70 maybe 65 then normally take off.....

I dont know heaps about 2 strokes, but I would assume its a build up of 2 stroke oil in the exhaust, and then when you do over 6000RPM, the exhaust heats up enough for this oil build up to start burning off. If thats the cause, I wouldnt worry.

If its the piston rings, you will notice a performance difference. So I wouldnt worry! Thumbs Up

if you do it might be a case of cleaning it, it could be sticking while its trying to open causing it to smoke

Yes when you start them up in the morning especially. But not nearly as much when they are all warmed up properly. Shouldn't really be doing what 18aprillia is saying.

I have no idea but i think this ^^^^^ answer seem most logical Smile Which i guess means its a good thing to burn off all that oil from the exhaust and in theory it should stop smoking after a while Question

could be:

Runing the bike on cheap nasty two-stroke oil

sitting in traffic ie. riding slowly for long peroids causing a build up of oil

leaking crank seal, gearbox oil buring in the cylinder (unlikey)

oil pump set too rich

simular problem on my right cylinder on kr1s at the moment due to the oil pump set too rich. (can,t be bother to sort it)

Yeah, it does'nt sound normal to be honest. Normally when I start my RS up there's a fair bit of white smoke coming out of it whilst it warms up then it settles down. Can get it where if I suddenly accelerate from standstill some blackish smoke gets chucked out.

White smoke from a 2 stroker often indicates that something is leaking into the cylinder which shouldnt be. This could be something such as a broken head gasket, which is taking coolant into the cylinder and burning it off, hence the white smoke. Could also be a problem somewhere else such as the crank seals, (as Tatters said) where transmission oil leaks into the crank and also burns off as a white smoke. This happened to my old one a few days after I bought her, just a good thing it was from a dealership with warranty!

As about 18aprilia's original post, I wouldnt be too worried. Two-strokes are meant to smoke quite a bit, most likely a build up of oil and crap in the expansion chamber, then as soon as you rev it to hell, it cleans it out in a nice plume of gray smoke. Laughing

If your bike is struggling to get passed the 6000rpm, pull the power valve blade out and give it a clean. They get quite gunked up with unburned oil after being used for a long time at low RPM's. Its a pretty simple thing to do if you havent pulled it out before. Simply raise the tank, unscrew the two bolts holding it in place then carefully clean it up with a little help from something like WD40, will clean it up nicely. Thumbs Up Its a good thing to keep clean as it ensures maximum power, so it wont hurt to check anyways.

Its smoking because you're not thrashing.

Just thrash it, enjoy the smoke. Its meant to do it. After a good bit of thrashing it'll smoke less.

60000RPM isnt much for a 2 stroke anyway.. keep thrashing it. But if theres a performance decrease, have it seen too Thumbs Up

It's a 2 stroke, if it aint smoking, it aint running.

Don't worry about smoke, so long as it isn't white. The higher you rev it the more oil it gets, so it won't seize.

Check the oil pump to make sure it's delivering the correct amount of oil. You might want to check that the choke isnt sticking.

Your exhaust is clogged up. Remove the baffle from the end of the exhaust and burn all the carbon off using a blow lamp. To do a proper job you also need to clean out the exhaust . After removing the exhaust jam a potato in the end where it fits to the downpipe so that your exhaust is water tight. Now fill your exhaust with a strong solution of caustic soda which can be bought from most diy stores. Be sure to follow the instructions as you have to add the granules to water.Make sure you wear gloves.Leave to soak for three days. Once you have done this check the oil pump is set correctly and give it a good high speed thrash regularly to keep it clear.

Sad
