... and another pal of mine has a GSXR 600 for a few weeks now. Around £3,500 worth of bike and although I have not seen it, it is mean't to be (or was) a very nice bike.

A lad he work's with went to his yesterday, to have a look and a go of his bike.
This lad is meant to have years of experience on bike's and took it for a go round the block.

Can you guess what happened next ??? Confused

Yep someone pulled out in front of him, sent him over the bonnet, and the bike is supposed to be a complete write off. How fast he was going i don't know.

Anyhow, the bloke in the car doesn't even bother to stop and they have no reg number or owt.

Me mate was just saying to me how I am daft for wanting a bike (I am a new rider and after a CBR 600).

However, I think the morale of this story is not to give anyone a go of ya bike in an urban enviroment.

This kid has now got to try and get the £3,500 out his work buddie Shocked and get another bike as summer is on it's way.

Another note, this is the second accident where a car or van has hit a bike and just pegged it, is this quite common ???

The usual unwritten 'biking' rule is that if you can afford to have a go you can afford to pay up for any damages that are incurred - simple as that. Would it have mattered if the car driver had stopped as your mate's friend may not have been insured anyway unless his own bike insurance covers him as 3rd party on another Bike.

To answer your question about failing to stop - it's relatively uncommon but unfortunately there are tosspots in every walk of life and it looks like your mate's friend has met one albeit fleetingly - Hope he's OK.

yeah from what I gather the bike came off far worse.

The lad who did a superman across the bonnet is supposed to ok, although he will probably feel it in a day or two.

me mate is mean't to be in an unconsolible state.
I feel for the kid, he did his test on a 125cc had a 'bayblade' for a few month but has waited 2 years to get his dream bike the GSXR.

I just hope he has a longer biking lifespan than the gixxer.

as its been said above i follow the rule - if you dont have 1 you aint riding it

basically if i was to crash my mates bandit, my bandit would become his.....

these are peoples prides and joy and even as you said it wasnt (or may of) been the riders fault you cant take the risk of £3,500

Yep, I would always say the "You bend it, you mend it." rule applies when borrowing someone elses bike.

Yeah i have that attitude to! you bin it you win it, though no one has borrowed my bike, but i have riden on another members bikes on 2 occasions, and was shitting it most of the time i was riding, as i could vividly imagine getting a loan on a monday morning to cover the damage!

i always go off the principal that if i borrow somethign and break it i either pay for it to be fixed or replace it. but when i have riden me mates bikes (all 125cc as i have no full bike license) then its on a closed car park or industrial estate wer the risk of an accident is less. if i ever damged one then i wud either give them my bike or pay for damage.

The moral of the story is dont let anyone ride your bike if their not fully insured it just isnt worth it! hope your mate gets it sorted anyway.
