Ok, my clutch plates are shagged. Does anyone know of any bikes that use the same clutch plates as the NSR coz official Honda ones prices are mad, and it's not just that but it's the availabilty. It's a weeks wait for the NSR plates, whereas if a CR125 or similar uses the same I can get them straight away coz they keep 'em in stock. Any ideas Keith/G/Zim/Korn/Rope???

Cheers Ropehead... will see what I can sort out from local bike shops then.
Scotty, I can tell mine are shagged because when I pull the clutch in and put it into gear the rear wheels spins (on paddock stand) which suggests that the clutch is not disengaging. I went for a test ride and even though I am using the clutch it does seem like I am clutchles shifting. Basically on your clutch plates you have friction pads (is that what they're called?), some of which are metal, some are fibre (same stuff that your brake pads are made from), and they wear down in time. I had considered just whacking another clutch plate in, to sell it but that's a bit harsh on whoever buys it ____________________ A big enough hammer fixes anything! |

What do you reckon it is Keith??? It's not the adjustment coz I've messed about with that for ages and it seems to be set up right but just not disengaging the clutch. The cable is fine too as far as I know. Do you think it maybe the springs??? ____________________ A big enough hammer fixes anything! |

Hi
Well, sounds like the clutch needs adjusting. If the bike is juddering then maybe the clutch plates have warped, but that is less likely (and new plates might well make the problem worse).
As you say that the cable cannot be adjusted then it seems that something more needs doing. Maybe the clutch cable is on its last legs and about to snap, to is stretching when you pull it. Maybe the actuating arm is bent. Maybe there is wear inside the clutch casing where the actuating arm actually goes onto the clutch
All the best
