The Moomin and I are planning on hiring a Harley to ride Route 66 either next year or the year after, but before we actually go ahead and do it I want to ride a harley to see if I could cope with one for 2500 miles.

So - anyone want to lend me one for a coupla hours? Very Happy

Get in touch with Harley Davidson, Chapel Ash (Wolverhampton). I have a test ride on a Buell booked with them. You get the bike for a half day, not enough to cover 2500, but better than nothing Thumbs Up

I'll dig out their details if I can find them for you.

Oooo, and another thought - you remember Jack who bought my NSR off me?

He's working there as a mechanic (but he does now have a large bushy beard I'm informed) so it might be worth going in there and saying hello to him Thumbs Up

Harley simulator:

Borrow a Glodwing, rip off the downpipes and attach a trailer. In the trailer, empty the contents of a 50-gall oildrum and a quarter ton of assorted nuts and bolts.

Ride down the road, shedding oil slicks and ironmongery, pausing to peel off a £50 note from your money-roll an ignite it either with a lighter or with your exhaust gasses (for the authentic touch) every hundred metres or so.

Repeat till broke. Thumbs Up Mr. Green Thumbs Up

However, in the states that won't count for bugger all as petrol costs absolutely fook all and Americans love anything American, so if it breaks down they'll probably bend over backwards to help and fix it.

Arse, I've just had a call from H-D to arrange my test ride only to find out that they won't do it due to me being under 25.

Gits.

i think thats pathetic becuase all the dealerships are extremly well insured, how do they expect you to buy a bike if ya cant test ride it first??
All that should matter is that you have a full license.

Not true according to their website, it says you just need a full licence from the country you live in. We would obviously call them to discuss this before booking flights etc!

Also, if we go in 2007 as previously planned (before we got all excited about it and decided to bring it forward), I will be 26 and McJam will be 25. Thumbs Up

I can stick some over priced shiny things on a petrol lawnmower for you, just so you get a true feel of the things.

Having said that, I wouldnt mind riding in america.

Why not fire an e-mail off to HD's PR dept in the US explaining what your plans are and that you're trying to get things organised before you go but their UK dept are being awkward.

You might find that they have a whole turnaround in policy all of a sudden! The head office won't like it if the UK section is possibly turning away sales.

I'm sure you can buy a Harley when you're under 25 in the US, so it's a loads of cobblers that it should be here too.

And I know you're wrong because I went over there and rented one when I was 24. Wink

Anyway, it's a moot point as McJam will be 25 then.
