Shell Optimax Problems?

I am wondering if anyone else on this forum has had or has heard of people having problems using Shell Optimax.

Like it causing seals to perish and cause damaged to certain parts of some bikes. As I have been informed that is can cause some of these problems by a mechanicing friend, and it can cause more harm than good?

The only reason why I ask is that my GPZ has been playing up ever since I started using it, and as far as I can remember never had the problems I have now before I started using it. The last few times I have been using standard unlead but I am wondering if it has left any lasting damaged as it would certainly explain my problems at the moment!

Causing Problems? Only thing I can think of is the lack of 4 star petrol (for obvious reasons ) . If the bike was originally designed to run on it , valve seats etc? Confused

could be an unrelated problem.

Or it could be that all the additional cleaning agents and detergents in the fuel have disturbed crap thats been sitting in your carbs? Id pop them off and clean them out and its possible the optimax has shifted some stubborn crud and its come off n blocked summat.

This happened when a buddy of mine stuck some in his old land rover, and the carb in thats prolly not been stripped since the 70's lol

I use Esso supreme in my Honda CB250's, it costs a few more pence but my bike runs very well on it. I've tried optimax and it's okay but after tests I find that my bike runs better and more MPG out of Esso Supreme.

My advice, switch to BP Ultimate or Esso Supreme for two full tanks and see what happens, it could be your bike doesn't like Shell Optimax.

A treatment of REDEX is another good option.

It's all in the mind! We thought the commando ran better on optimax, turns out the carbs were fecked, new carbs and it runs on anything.

Shell Optimax is a great fuel, however it can cause discouloration to plastics and painted surfaces - yamaha Australia put out a warning to owners re the use of Optimax - also have a look at the gearbox's of BMW R series bikes that use it and have had a leaking fuel line - silver cases look dog piss yellow

My bikes have all seemed to run fine on optimax.

Will have to give esso supreme a try though. Smile
