Because they always quote you more for a renewal than if you are a new customer.

I discovered this last year with my car insurance, I got a new policy for over £200 cheaper with the same insurer by cancelling my original policy and taking out a new one.

Insurance is the biggest scam in the world. They charge over the top prices, have the worst customer support in the world and refuse to pay out EVER! If they do then its usually pennies.

My mum hit a car a while ago and wrote it off. The insurance company where only going to give her a third of what the car was worth. She had to print ads from autotrader and send them in to the company to show them what the value was.

Also with my last bike (the gsxr) Bennetts tried to tuck me up a treat. I cancelled the policy 2/3rd's into it. They said on the phone they would pay me back £350. All i had to do was send in my certificate. I did that and had no reply. About a month later i phoned them up and they said they never recieved it. Convenient? They also said that the month that had just passed i would not be able to claim for the insurance. I then had to pay admin charges to print a new certificate and then send it back to them. Eventually they only gave us about £230 back. Tossers. Middle Finger

buy a copy of autotrader and spend an afternoon at the end of the month {1} going through it quoteing the lowest figure and company which gave it to you, i got an online quote for £1500 to insure my sv650 but got it down to £500. most web sites only give a price before the brokers start offering discounts but www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk seems to be spot on offering me £35 a month to insure a tl1000s

{1} preferably a friday, sales departments get commission in blocks and your bussiness could add a couple hundred quid to someones pay so the will max out a discount if you will sign up that day.

i work in motor insurance and....

1) there are more often than not, introductory discounts

2) internet quotes will be cheaper than quotes that involve a salesperson (generally by about 10%)

3) insurance companies dont actually value their customers. sorry but its true.

those are the normal reasons, though are probly soime more i cant think of (besides claims of course!)

"3) insurance companies dont actually value their customers. sorry but its true.."

I can definitely agree with you on that.

That me just getting my cheque from someone that pulled out a side street and hit my car. Was totally messed around from my insurance (NIG) since December. The other driver claimed liability and so she told her insurance, but I was having no joy at all. It was only when I was telling a mate about it (who works in insurance), then I started to get it sorted.
My mates said to me that my insurance were fking me about with sht about waiting for engineer to authorise the work, and estimates/invoices being lost...etc etc.

He got onto it and started complaining to both parties, and presto got cheque next week.

(that reminds me, need to get him some beers)
