Evening,

Since I am in the process of moving from the SR125 which can cause a dead leg if you fall off, to a GS500 which can cause a small lump and a nasty graze if you come off, I have decided to splash out on a pair of armoured trousers (boy is that the wrong phrase! Smile )

Anyhoo, I want them to be overtrousers since I can't be arsed getting changed at work, they have to be cheap and since I'm skinnily challenged, they have to do big sizes.

Anyone know of any?

I think Heine Gericke do a pair for £50 which might be worth looking at, otherwise their Devon trousers are exactly what you're after for £70 IIRC. Well, not exactly what you're after in that they're not particularly cheap, but I thought I'd get the mention in.

Hi,

I have some JTS Over trouses, in a generous size. They are warm and waterproof, I have used them all winter - the braces are useless though so I took them off.
I removed the knee amour as I am short and they are the wrong shape for shin pads.

Regards

I have some hein gericke trousers which i put over my smart clothes when I go into the office " psx-t2 evo" trousers. very good quality.

If you ask them nicely they will give 10% off them so instead of £150 you get them at £135!

You can damage your legs bad enough to have surgery required at 30mph..
Its not the speed of your crash.. its how you crash. When you are in that hospital waiting for an op, with a broken leg, you wont say that your legs arent worth 130 odd pounds Rolling Eyes

Errmm you are joking aren't you!! When I was sat in hospital with the Doctors saying how lucky I was that my crash injuries weren't 20% worse 'cos they would have had to amputate my foot, I started to think about how much I would be unable to do without my legs, or at least a foot (Does beg the question what would life be like with one foot - definitley be more popular with the ladies fnar fnar!!)

The accident happened whilst I was doing 30mph before breaking so less than 30 at impact.

Don't be flippant over the worth of your limbs, I'm sure there are paraplegics out there who'd have the use of your legs for £135!!

Just my 2p.

Crashing got me £3-400 worth of titanium from the NHS. I'd imagine the metalwork required for broken fib and tib or reconstructing knees would cost considerably more. I'd rather buy some decent trousers.

Sweet Jesus! Of course I course I was joking. Didn't the fact that I mentioned that the worst that can happen on a GS500 is to get a nasty graze and a bit of a lump a clue? Rolling Eyes

Erm... HG will not give you 10% off for just asking. They're tight as f*ck. You will have to spend a lot of cash before they'll give you something shit for free. They sell alot of stuff and don't need to give discounts.

busters catalogue do a pair of cordura trousers with armour in knees and space for thigh armour for £40, or another pair for £50 with zip to jecket and small legs sizes.

Its seriously worth spending a decent amount of money on bike kit as if you fall off you will reduce the chance of any major injuries.

I wear :-

Sidi vertigo boots £140
Hein gericke trousers £135
Frank thomas (not perticularly good I found out jacket) £100
Caberg justissimo bone dome £150

thats £525 which is not that much really considering.

Cheap bike clothing is normally cheap for a reason!

You're risking the wrath of T.C. saying that. Smile

As far as I remember, most of the leathers are all made in the same factory and are pretty much all the same stuff. Fit, leather thickness and the quality of the stitching is probably more important than how much it costs imo.
