Right of way on a roundabout

When coming onto a roundabout you give way to traffic from the right, yes? Your opinions on the following then:

Yesterday morning I was on my way to work, slowed right down for a 1-lane mini-roundabout. Two other exits and I was going for the second so I had my right indicator on. To my right is a queue of traffic waiting to come on from the exit I want. The first 2 cars in the queue have left indicators on (ie they are turning into the exit I am coming out of) so I move out onto the roundabout. I'm just under half way around when the 3rd driver from my right screeches out of his exit and across in front of me to take the exit to my left, cutting me up pretty badly and causing me to slam on. Luckily I missed him (or he missed me) but it caused the old adrenaline to kick in and I was a bit shaky for the next couple of minutes.

So, apart from yelling a few choice expletives, I'm OK.

But what if he'd hit me? If I am already on the roundabout does he still have right of way? I would have thought not, but it had made me think. I'd hate to get the blame for something that was, in my eyes, not my fault.

My driving instructor told me that if you are already on the roundabout you have the right of way.

THat is the equivalent of a car powering round a large roundabout the wrong way and cutting you off from your exit.

You have to make an attempt to drive 'around' the mini roundabout, which is evidently what he did not do.

It was his fault IMO, and hopefully in the eyes of the law too. Smile

baby yam i would definately say you were in the right.

i cant stand drivers that cant use a roundabout properly. and as for the ones that dont indicate on it, grrr.

sometimes i am bad and if they are not indicating i will cut them up, as long as it doesnt cause an accident, but if they are bigger than me i let them go.

I hate roundabouts, they scare the hell out of me, I face the "right of way" problem all the time. What is worse is when you are heading for your exit and some bugger pulls out so you have to take action.

The number of times I've given drivers "THE FINGER" for their stupid moves.

If your already on the roundabout then you have right of way. Of course there are going to be stupid idiots that think they can just go in front.

Yesterday i was on a roundabout going for the second exit, i just passed the first exit and then indicated left for my exit (the second one) when the idiot in a double decker bus (who was aware what i was doing) just pulled out in front of me and decided to go very slow causing me to brake hard and nearly go into the side of the bus. He gave me a look as if to say "Pffft your on a bike, i'm in a double decker...what you going to do about it" as he was pulling out on me.

Sorry for ranting a bit but it seems that people think that because your on a motorbike then they can do what they want.

But I would bet money that the son of a donkey shagger would swear blind he was on the roundabout first and therefore had right of way.

Difficult to prove really.

On a roundabout you give way to the vehicle on your right but this only works if everyone uses the rounabout in a the proper fashion.

Incidently touching the white centre of a mini roundabout is 3 points and a £60 fine.

A copper threatening to do me for it and my instructor 12 years ago. Something about failure to adhere to road signs in that the arrows tell you to go aroung the white blob and that in going straight over you are contravening them .

Yes that roundabout is fun withe the inner circle going in the opposite direction to the outer.

They do make sense in a funny kind of way (if you think of it as five mini roundabouts rather than one big one), but what was wrong with just a 3-4 lane roundabout with lights if neccessary is beyond me.
