The new AA road atlas is going to show the positions of speed cameras.

More than three million motorists are expected to buy the new edition, which is set for publication on June 29, the AA’s 100th birthday. The decision to include speed camera locations has reignited the debate over whether drivers should have advance warning of speed camera zones.

Stephen Mesquita, general manager of AA Publishing, said: "We are doing this to try to save lives."

"There is also an issue that it is an unfair advantage for locals, who know where speed camera locations are. We are trying to help people keep below the speed limit and we have said in the atlas that speeding costs lives."

Andrew Howard, head of road safety at the AA Motoring Trust, said drivers on unfamiliar roads should not be at a disadvantage to motorists who use them often.
