I got pulled by a bike cop on my ZX6R at 17. Shifty

Despite being a bike cop he was under the impression that it was the largest bike I could ride until I was 21, I didn't correct him. Razz

Harder to bullshit but also a bike rider themselves and so probably not as arsey as mr volvo driving cop who has never riden a bike.

I'd seriously thought about being a police rider, the training is hard as hell and not an easy job, but the worst bit is haveing to be a normal copper for 2 years or so before, i couldn't cope with all the sheeat they much have to put up with Sad

Innocent untill proven, never assume they will be an arse, if people think like that about bikers then were all lunatics who are going to kill ourself on the next corner and we shouldn't be on the road..

The ones around here are a sound bunch of blokes(and a lady).

They tend to live in the real world, and as long as you aren't riding/acting like a tit they will generaly leave you alone, BUT they still have a job to do and if the boss says do something they have to act.

Scary bit is when they all turned up at my house with lights flashing and blocked the road outside the house with 3 Pan-Euros.

That had all the neighbours curtain twitching Laughing ............

Followed one for a while on the way in to work today. I was wondering about filtering when he darted between the traffic up to the lights, so I thought, "Aye". Good to follow him, though. Free lesson. I think he's speedo must have been slower than mine as I was doing 50 following him in a 40 and I wasn't catching him up.

Seen a couple round town in the last few days - 2 more than the other 4 years at uni!!! Seen to be pretty good and don't take too much notice unless you really are being silly. If you get a chance, follow one and ride with them for a while. That'll show you how to make safe, extremely rapid progress without moving your arse 1mm out of the seat!!

Saw 9 in convoy going up the A5 when I was on my way to work last summer. Scared the crap out of me, but I reckon they'd gone for a training ride. Getting overtaken by a swarm of fluro Pan Euro's & BMWs is a sight!!

Only thing i couldnt handle is having to ride an absolutely wank bike. But its what im aiming to get into in about 5-6 years.

As for the police i stand by the 1 of em your ok, 2 of em your fucked rules on being pulled. Hence i prefer bike coppers.

And i get plenty of nods, especially if they can tell your not riding russian roulette style. Came round a bend on a 60 doing about 100 ish on the cbr in a relaxed stance and i got a nod from a copper in the layby.

Bike coppers are on the whole a pretty decent bunch.

I got pulled by a car a month or so back for weaving. I've since learnt that weaving actually does nothing to warm your tyres - so don't bother with it lads.

Anyway, chap in the car came out with some tripe about road bikes having harder tyres and so they "didn't need to be hot to be sticky".

Prick tbh.

He's kind of right. Although any tyres will perform better when warm, it's nothing like the same extent as with racing slicks which aren't even usable when cold. For evidence of that see Alex Hoffman highsiding his Kwakka GP bike at about 10mph on a press demo a few weeks ago.

I got tugged by one yesterday leaving 'Squires' in Yorkshire, bastid gave me a VDRS to get my reg plate sorted.

Bonny_Ricardo, what exactly IS a wanky bike?????? a bike cop on a Pan would run rings around you for certain, trust me.
If you wanna join up and get into the bikes then you need to quit that dope shit you smoke as you'll be piss tested. Oh and don't bank on getting onto the bikes with anything less than 6 years experience of beat bobbying on the streets.

I'll never understand how people can slate bikes before they've even tried them. Agreed with jonny, they'll run rings round your cbr if ridden properly. It's all down to the rider anyway. On that note, I seen a fjr1300 today parked up and nearly fell in love with the thing. Lovely lines and not as huge as I thought it would be!! Thumbs Up

Oh and I'm not 49, I'm 20 Wink

On the topic subject, never had a bike coppper wave at me. Sad

Run into our bike cops a lot up here as they like to get involved with local events and things like bikesafe. One told me typically you would need four years experience of being a pork scratching then two years at least if riding your own 'big bikes' then training.

One started his bikesafe lecture by saying he rode fast where possible, wore an iridium visor and was very lenient with riders he stopped over certain things but never numberplates (understandable). He was the main escort for our easter egg run last year and when we finished he went down the line of bikes telling people to remove different bits of kit, and I just thought 'cheeky arsehole'. saying that they do nod.

Worst case was on the A595 coming back from keswick and being unfortunate enough to have them coming the other way 'training'. I was in the car and I always love having to slam on the anchors because someones in my lane coming the other way. I guess it must have been persuit training!

Wink

I've had them flash their lights at me (blue and normal ones Rolling Eyes). Think I once had a nod, didn't nod back cos at the time I was concentrating on a rapid deceleration Smile

I've had the privledge of riding pillion with a bike cop who's a friend of the family. Yes he did break speed limits considerably but he was the best pilot I'd seen. You didn't feel the gear changes, power was delivered smoothly, lines were precise and never at one moment did you think "oooooooh crap" which you usually do with other riders. Talking to him after was a real insight too, telling you how to be faster and safer, some good advice like if you can't see a clear view ahead for an overtake go onto the other side of the road and sit there at the same speed, if it's safe commit yourself and overtake, if it's not, go back in. Thumbs Up

The bastids never ot at me Sad - seeing that most of the police bikers in the N london area were teaching the bikesafe course and were rather amused by my bike- i felt a bit upset.

I got pulled over once near Harrow as i undertook a car - could have been done for it, but the guy had a check and just wanted to know whether i was legal or not - 125 and no L's. Then i had a chat about what bike he rode and trackdays etc and seemed to think that i wasn't a knob. When you get pulled -just have a chat with the fella and you'll understand that they're all reasonable. - Usually training school instructors are ex-police but unlike on-duty police- they tend to be rather pedantic and critical with everyting.
