Hopefully within one month-two months i will have my full license. In looking for a new bike, i have to stick to a budget while knowing what type of bike i want. I'm still unsure, but then i thought of the FZR's. They go at great prices in bike trader, way within my budget.

My question is, does anyone own one? What are they like comfort wise, performance wise. Basically just overall.

Also i would be looking at TPF&T insurance on it, in a suburban area(hardly any crime here) Garaged in the back garden(out of site) for myself (an 18 year old with 1 Year NCB on provisional)

Thanks!

Is it garaged, or is it not? If it's not in a building of brick construction they don't give a fuck, you may aswell park it on the road.

I'd say you're looking at about £600 insurance, maybe less. There's always a few jammy buggers who find rediculously cheap insurance.

I'm paying high £500s for my XJ600, garaged in a good area, 0NCB.

Hi

Few people on here have FZR600s, me included.

Nice enough bike. Not that quick compared to a modern 600 (top speed is in the 135~140 region), but quick enough. Brakes are OK, although likely to seize up if you are not careful. Engines seem reliable on the road (they had a habit of throwing rods on the track) although quite a few have gearbox problems.

Pretty good on petrol (better than the Divvy I had for the same use), decent size petrol tank and spares are easy to find.

Biggest problem is the rear tyre. It takes a 150/60 ZR18 tyre and only Bridgestone still make them which gets expensive (same size as the VFR400, but with the VFR you can get away with H rated tyres that are more common). When the exhaust rots you are limited on choice as well (although D&K sell replacement front sections). The clutches can get very grabby and nasty when they get hot (apparently due to wear in the shock absorbtion springs int he clutch basket).

I paid £875 for mine, although I got diddled a bit as I found some engine damage after buying it.

The 400 is quite similar (plenty of bits are shared with the 600, including loads of engine internals) but has an alloy frame.

All the best

Keith

Yes FZR600 is great bike, Ive had mine to 140 but my made says he clocked me at 145 coming into Belfast last saturday, he was on his cbr600, but speedo's could be out.

Only problem I have had is the front brake lever going hard after really hard riding, ine guy I race with has same problem with his.

Appart from that great bike.

Insurance, I payed £485 this year fully comp and just renewed for £200. And thats at Belfast Prices.
