The Honda CG125 is supposed to be very reliable and is also cheap. There should be loads for sale. Try www.biketrader.co.uk

Thumbs Up

It depends what your really after though. Are you after a sporty type bike? or do you not mind how it looks? (hence the cg125)

G's musings on your first bike seem to be quite useful to me. The sticky for Newbie bikers at the top of the New Bikers Area has some top stuff in. Thumbs Up

Depending on how long you're going to use it for, I'd say you'd be better off with a 2 stroke bike, as it won't make you quite so bored going along straight roads.

Agreed. You can find semi-choppered bike (for lack of a better term) for less money. You will pay huge amounts of money for the fully choppered/cruiser style of bike. You would be devastated if you were to drop one, as with any newer bike.

If you ask me, you can always buy or indeed convert a bike into a chopper when you have more experience of riding. I'd have thought you would have a better level of understanding, control and respect of the machine.

If you still like the idea of getting a chopper you can bikes that are inspired by choppers (look/style wise). You could always try bikes like: Suzuki Marauder (can be had cheaply), Suzuki GN125, Yamaha SR125, etc.

I too am a fan of choppers and classic bikes, but for a first bike, I'd have something that can be bought cheaply, something you can afford to drop and something that you can sell on (possibly to fund a chopper Mr. Green). The Honda CG would fit the bill in my opinion.

Good Luck mate Thumbs Up

Kymco zing 125 is pretty damn good, decent build quality so long as you look after the chrome and its incredibly reliable. In my 8 months of having it, I didn't replace a thing except for oil and spark plug, and that was over 5000 miles.

They don't keep their value very well so you can pick one up for £700-800 no bother. Thumbs Up As I say look after it (just make sure it don't start rusting) and it's great. Very under-rated and better than other chinese shite. Very Happy

Thanks for all your help i looked around and i really like the look of the Suzuki Marauder, and from reviews ive read it appears to be a good learners bike as well. Does anyone here have any massive objections to this choice?Ive seen a few bad reviews but they werent very specific...

No-one will have any objections to anything other than buying a car. Buy whatever you like. Thumbs Up A large amount of deciding what bike to get is whether you can actually find what you're after. I'd love a MZ Skorpion Sport Replica, but I'll be damned if you can even find one in the country at all, let alone for sale.

Have a look at:

https://www.biketrader.co.uk
https://www.adtrader.co.uk
https://www.loot.com
https://motors.ebay.co.uk
https://www.exchangeandmart.co.uk

And have a look in your local rag, believe me, I have been looking through these types of magazines for months now, you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding a Marauder.

Good Luck! Thumbs Up
