Oh man....did he really have to leave his email address tehre. Thats very concerning.
*don't do it greg, don't do it.....step away from the computer*
But on a serious note, I think we should set the fellow straight on a few things, in a nice way. To show we are all humans after all and what sort of effect imposing this "restriction" would have.
Of course I'm sure he's just joking and wanting a big reaction !! |

Of course he is well within his rights to be concerned at the amount of deaths on the road, but that is all, other peoples lives are none of his business.

Oh well, can't ride 500 miles on the motorway at 70, i'll have to thrash it down the back lanes at 70 instead |

It is impossible to ban bikes.. if they were made illegal I, for one, would still ride them
He just sounds like a stuck-up-his-arse twat who thinks he's better than us.
He even suggests that car drivers are the cause of a lot of motorcycle accidents.. ban cars then?? No that's not an option is it, in the same way that banning bikes is a stupid idea ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

| Quote: | Motorcycle dangers
From Mr Paul Smith
Sir, I am becoming increasingly alarmed at the rising number of motorcycle deaths. These accidents, whether the fault of the motorcyclist or other road users or even road conditions, are tragedies for a great many people. The main problem seems to me to be the lack of protection a motorcyclist has.
I wonder whether we should start looking at restricting the use of motorcycles to, say, minor roads, or even banning them altogether?
Yours faithfully,
PAUL SMITH,
8 Beacon Hill Road, Halifax HX3 6AF.

Has this guy really got a clue.

He just wants to put a stop to something, or ban something, but mostly not for others, but just to get his name out there.
He is someone with an opinion about something of which he knows nothing. He has this opinion and expresses it publically to fill a need he has, a need for public admiration and respect. He feels somehow inadequate in everyday life and needs to feel reasured that he is in fact a pillar of the community. What a nice little worker ant!
What e doesn't realise is that he has stumbled into the (Honda) Hornets nest and started off a verbal war. He has also made him self look very sad indeed!
Poor guy, he should sign up to his local drama group instead (that was not a dig at drama groups by the way), as this would fill his need better! ____________________ TL1000R Parts For Sale! |

A friend of mine has seen this article in the Times and sent this letter off to him:
| Quote: | While I understand, and share your concern about the number of motorcycle
deaths, I find your suggestion to ban motorcylcles moronic.
To many a motorcycle is their only form of transport. We not only enjoy
riding but find it the most cost effective mode of transport. We're not all
speed freaks, many of us ride safely and within the law, and though I have
to admit that there are a SMALL minority of motorcyclists that tear around,
are wreckless and have little regard for other road users, but that element
also exists in cars, vans, lorries etc. Would you have all those modes of
transport banned as well??
In my opinion the way forward is NOT banning any form of transport, but
educating ALL. There are already plans to change the way we gain the
motorcycle licence in an effort to prevent young and inexperienced riders
jumping on big powerful machines. But all road users need to look out for
eachother. We should be more aware of what's happening around us. I've
lost count of the times that my friends in the motorcycling commuity have
heard that 'I didn't see you' - we make every effort to be as visible as
possible, but if other people aren't paying attention we stand no chance.
A close friend of mine was in an accident 18 months ago. He was riding in
heavy rush hour traffic, his bike was bright red white and blue, he had his
headlights on and reflective material on his clothing. He wore full
protective leathers, boots, helmet and gloves. He had fitted an after
market exhaust to make the bike louder and more noticable. Yet a car driver
pulled out of a junction, crossing his path, they collided and he was hurled
through the air into the path of an oncoming car. He was proven to have
been travelling at 30 - 35 mph in a 40mph zone. The car driver was unhurt,
my friend is still suffering from some of his injuries and was lucky to
survive This is just one of many stories I could tell you about where car
drivers have been thoughtless in their actions. Yet when motorcyclists are
killed in such incidents it gives out the impression that we are dangerous.
Yes we are more at risk than other road users, we don't have air bags and
side impact bars to protect us. BUT the answer is NOT to ban us from the
roads. There is a difference between being more vulnerable and being
dangerous and the vast majority of bikers are concientious and careful,
riding is a way of life and brings people together. There is a large
community out there who deserve understanding and consideration from other
road users. Give us a chance!

I've just sent the following letter to Mr Smith's e-mail address, and will be sending it to the papers also.
| Sadie wrote: |
Dear Mr Smith
With regard to your letter to the Times and your other letter to the Daily express today, I would like to thank you for your concern for my safety.
However, as an all weather rider of some 21 years, and as someone who chooses to ride a bike and not to drive a car due to the environmental implications of pollution and usage of road space, I would like to tell you that I am more than happy to take responsibility for my own safety and am well aware of the inherent risks associated with motorcycling.
We are increasingly living in a “nanny state”, where we are considered too incompetent to be allowed to decide anything for ourselves any more, and I for one am not prepared to allow you or anyone else to dictate to me what roads I should use, or even whether I should use them. This is a matter of civil liberties as far as I am concerned.
Please in the future keep your uninformed opinions to yourself. It is enough that we have to deal with the all too real statistics regarding motorcycle fatalities and injuries (which, incidentally, taking into account both the increase in miles travelled by motorcycle and the increasing number of motorcyclists on the road, are coming down and not going up as you suppose) without having to deal with the opinions of people who have nothing better to do with their time than to pick on minority interests.
Regards.
Yours sincerely.
