PostPosted: 17:44 - 04 May 2005    Post subject: GPZ500S Engine Swap! Aka Throwing money at Shitheap Part 74! Reply with quote

Well its started, I am swapping the A Model engine in my 500S to an E10 Model engine, which has only 7,000 miles on it and comes with a 12 month guarentee too!

Mine has seen better days it seems after only 12,000 miles. It seems its head gasket has gone and sounds like the big end bearings are shot for some reason or something is seriously amiss with the top end and primary. Confused

But today I have begun stripping back the bike to get ready to drop the old engine out and put the new one in.

So this morning the bike looked like this:

And this is what it looked like, once I had started removing things, not gotten very far, but the fairing, bodywork and tank was off.

And this is the final picture of today, with the exhausts, radiator, loom, and carbs all off the bike.

Supprisingly nothing so far is corroded solid or refusing to budge, its all coming off smoothly!

Oil, where?

Thats coolant on the floor, kinda spilt some when draining the cooling system, and that on the front of the engine is weeping from the CCT, bloomin' Kawasaki never sent me a gasket when the sent me a replacement one!

Why did you stop, it is still daylight.

Plenty of time left.

12K, mine was a sweet as a nut after 16K then I piled it last August.

It used to take me 90 minutes to get the head and barrel off a CB250RS.

You should change the thread title to something along the lines of "Throwing money at a shit heap part 72".

And you should change your name to "Im a twat".

No-one forced you to read the thread, and the title clearly says what bike this thread is for. Rolling Eyes

On-topic.

I agree with the others, you took too long to get the fairings/tank ect ect off. You need to work faster. Mr. Green

Eh??

I dropped the engine out mine, rebuilt it with parts from another engine (snapped conrod, new barrels, and replaced one of the Y shaped rocker arms) in two days, all on my lonesome.

don't need no help, or is that ickl engine too heavy for you? Wink Razz

Good on you mate, I couldn't put my TZR250 engine back in by myself. So I'm not suprised you don't fancy that one by yourself.

But getting my TZR engine out was easy, couple of old sofa cushions underneath, undo the subframe, undo the big fuck off bolts and it just rolled out.

What's happening here.
Question

Is the engine out yet or is it already back in and running.

Old Thread Alert!
