I know someone has set fire to the sopeed camera at the start of mad mile (Near Sutton) and spray painted the one on Reigate hill but last night I dodged a bullet.

Last night I was coming up the hill from Tadworth roundabout. I'd caught the lights just right, clear road, nailed it in 2nd all the way to the red line changed up and had just started to slow slightly when I saw a dreaded camera van in a layby ahead. I must have been doing 80- 90, hard on the brakes, I could see it was a forward facing camera and I got the speed right down as I went past but I could see a bike copper sitting in the junction up the road and I'm sure he knew how fast I was going. There was a side road on the left so I nipped in only to discover it was a dead end! I parked up and 'hid' for about 5 mins then freewheeled back to the main road but the copper was still sitting there. A guy on a BMW turned in and asked if I was OK, he said the trap had been there all day and if I followed him into his house we could watch the police bike from his drive.

I hung around for another few minutes then the bike cop started up and shot off after a car. I said thanks to the BMW owner and got back on my way. There was anouther bike cop 200 yards later in the next junction and a patrol car by the roundabout! Drove past really slowly and carried on. When I got to the top of Reigate Hill by the M25 they had a mobile police station and a line of cars being processed and booked. The bike copper I had seen was there with the car driver and he wagged his finger at me as I went past.

Looks like I dodged the bullet... thank god for forward facing cameras.

I'll keep an eye out for that one, I use it a lot for getting onto the M25 at junction 8.

I've seen them have speed traps, but not on that scale before.

Cheers for the heads up. Cool

Cheers for the warning, I live on the A23 in Redhill so go by that way pretty often. Sounds like you were lucky to get away with that one Shocked

Ive had my share of close calls like that as well...always gets the adrenaline going Shocked.

One night I was riding quite fast with someone on the back and a friend on another bike. I was doing around 70 mph (island-wide speed limit of 30...) with the throttle to the stop when going down a slight dip that kinks to the right, a wall blocking the view of the exit from the entry. Naturally there was a police car going the opposite direction right in that blind spot. Oh, shiiit...kept the throttle wide open and turned off the road into a drive a few hundred meters up the road and hid by a friends house, though the car never turned around.

Another time I was leaving town and crusing 5-10 mph over the limit when I went past a copper hiding in the bushes, his gun out, which I later recalled being pointed slightly down...I pulled into a bakery parking lot literally 50 yards down the road, got off the bike and pretended I was just fishing something out of my bag. I knew the police bikes were in the bus stop around the corner from the building (where they always are when they have a laser trap there), so I wanted to wait a good 5-10 mins before leaving. A few mins later another guy pulls into the same parking lot, cursing under his breath...had the same idea as me Smile. However, he decided it would be wiser to go around the corner and step into the bakery for awhile. 2 mins later he was being escorted back around the corner with an officer, whose radio was describing bikes to him. I figured the gig was up, yet he only gave the other guy a ticket, with me standing there, my stomach in my mouth, pretending to change my camera batteries. I got on, rode past the police bikes and went home...I was sure I was going to be paying $250 in a month.

Reminds me of one time me and my mate were coming back from the Leadburn meet near Edinburgh.

Heading back into town, I was on a GPZ500s and my mate was on a Rickman CB750, both of us had lasses from the bike club on the pillion. I got red mist on the way back and was ragging the arse off the GPZ, my mate was following me. Pulled out onto the dual carriageway betwen Penicuick and Bilston and put the hammer down. We were sitting at around the ton all the way back into town (40 then 30 limit, but about 2 in the morning). Past the shopping centre, under the bypass then screamed up then down the hill to kings buildings and along the white line all along causewayhead. I stopped to drop off my pillion then set off, again hovering around the ton and pulled into the bike parking area on a sidestreet at the top end of the meadows.

As I got off the bike I heard a police siren dopplering towards me the same way I had come and hid behind a wheelie bin to see a traffic car scream past the road end at 90-100mph (30 limit). When I spoke to my mate the next day, the same thing had happened to him when he pulled into his road end another 3 miles into town. Apparently when I had pulled onto the dual carriageway, the police car was going the other way and my mate had just enough time to see his brake lights going on as we screamed off into the distance. He had been chasing us ton-up for about 15 miles through town.Shocked

This gave me pause for thought as I reckon that had they caught me doing over triple the speed limit, I would have landed up doing some time at her Majesties pleasure. I do not ride like that any more Rolling Eyes

Tintin,

forward facing cameras can have bikes. They just have to note down the reg as you go past or stop you.

Yes I was worried about that but with all the police presence and the mobile station I would have thought they would have stopped me to book me there and then.

Fingers crossed I don't get NIPed.

I got a parking fine not too long a go, and they took pictures of the front and rear. guarantee those pics are on a database somewhere. Wouldn't put it past the bastards.
I had a near miss this week as well on my way to my new job. Makes me mad as the spot where they are is targeting people who are just trying to get to work. Surely at 8:00 in the morning they should hide in bushes catching burglars and muggers.

I think the government would want to contract this out and pave the way for road charging by having us all fit a little chip that can be scanned by roadside/underroad equipment.

After all if they can work out where you are they can charge you for using that road. If they can work out how far you've travelled between two points they can do you for speeding too.

Note sure if that's really in a traffic cops job description mate. Wink

Along long time ago, we used to have plates on the front of bikes. Like a knife they were when we hit pedestrians. So they got rid of them. And any chips planted, no doubt would soon be found, and water would get in thier electrics. Wink

I've never seen so much old bill on the road in these past few months.

Got shivved last week in a car. Turned off a roundabout onto this little hill to see a van in a layby with peepholes at the back, no probs I think as I'm not tearing. just as you get over the little hill past the van there's a massive road block pulling over almost every car and even kids under 10 on bicycles for riding on the pavement!

Crapped myself as apparently I'd not seen one of them flag me down so he's blown a whistle and they threw stingers out in front of me and a cruiser blocked the road.
Was trying to talk my way out of it when a car that was being pulled over jumped the little island into the oncoming lane and did a runner, officer next to me pulled out his baton and threw it at the car! Went through the window and hit him on the shoulder but he still got away.

Got a tug on my bike yesterday too, you just know as you go past a police car that it's gonna turn round after you. Rolling Eyes

They don't need to. Those trafficmaster thingies are everywhere and they work in exactly the same way as the "average speed" cameras(specs). If they're working in collaboration with the govt. in order to be allowed to stick them along every busy road in the country, then I wouldn't put it past them both to be using the infrastructure and technology for speed enforcement purposes in 10yrs time Rolling Eyes

I came off the Reigate M25 junction last night at 10.45ish and funnily enough a traffic cop had pulled some lad in a Punto at the top of Reigate hill, probably for wearing a baseball cap.

Na, It was probably for being in possession of an offensive car and playing with a loud girlfriend in a built up area.

All those cops last week has really spoilt my ride home, I loved nailing it up that bit of road...
