Road legal tyres, a number plate and a horn. That will get you a daylight MOT, or if you want a full MOT you will need a headlight, brake light and tail light which illuminates the numberplate. You don't need indicators or mirrors in either case.

Laughing

Road legal tyres are ones you can use on the road. Rolling Eyes

I.e Motocross tyres are not road legal, due to the tread pattern.

Thumbs Up

Any motorised vehicle that can exceed 30mph requires a brake light.

All motorised vehicles on uk roads require a rear facing red reflector but it may be part of the rear light len's.

The rear light doesn't have to illuminate the number plate but the number plate must be illuminated on a standard MOT.

you may have to take into account sound emmisions. my cr125 is at least 5 times louder than my rs125.

motorcross 125's put out 40 bhp so it depends on your liscence aswell.

to me it seems like a pain when you can buy a supermoto and just change to off road tyres at weekends.

Quite a high proportion of motorcross tyres are actually road legal.
However the stickier ones will die on the road quite quickly, as mentioned they also don't grip very well.

Also consider how regularly you will have to do rebuilds on the engine; rack up road miles are you could be talking weekly rebuilds!

I would look more at a road designed motorcross bike such as a dr125. These can still be ragged off road; though you won't be winning any races Smile, they are also pretty good 125cc road bikes.

Nope, not on a daylight MOT. I have an R6 race bike which is MOT'd and road legal, all it has to achieve MOT is a numberplate and a clamp-on horn Very Happy

most mx bikes can only run a maximum of 12 hours before needing a complete rebuild and piston rings / gaskets changing
