Hi guys,

Having costed a replacement tank at over £400, I've decided to look into a respray again!

A few minutes on the internet have not yielded any obvious information about any repair shops anywhere near me (Harrow, north London).

I note from this thread:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=37741&highlight=tank+spray

...that someone considers £120 to be a fair price for a respray. I'm assuming mine will cost more as the damn thing has a small dent in, is quite large, and is a nice expensive shade of silver!

Anyone got any advice on the matter, and more importantly, does anyone know a shop within a reasonable radius of Harrow where I can get it done?!

Do it yourself. Go ooooonnn. Try it. You might like it. If you fuck it up, just take it to a shop. Get filler and sandpaper from halfords. Thumbs Up

I decided to do mine myself. I'm going to change the colour sheme altogether. from blue to Black and Silver. Bought some glossy black from Halfords for £4.99. So far I've done the rear panels. Not a bad job at all I think.

Ive repainted a few bikes with rattle cans.

I always sand the old paint or take back to metal, then a few coats of primer, sand the primer once dry, then a few of black, then sand it,then put several coats of laquer, sanding between each coat allowing it to dry fully each time..

Be careful when using cans to respray a tank. Petrol dissolve these types of spray.

You need to use 2k or basecoat/clearcoat.

I agree that you should try and do it yourself. I will never pay that much to have a tank resprayed.

I resprayed my bike recently (complete bike) with basecoat/clearcoat which is the most expensive paint. Total cost:

R200.00 (ZA) which is about $45.00(US)
