My new bike is booked in for it's service tomorrow at a garage that was recommended to me. So I thought I would ride up to it this morning so I know where it is.

I was on a dual carriageway about 4 miles from the house, and it started to splutter and buck like it was out of petrol (there's half a tank in there), then died. I parked the bike and walked a mile to the nearest Travel Inn type place and arranged for Direct Line Breakdown to come and get it (they insure the bike, not the person, so I had to pretend it was the SR that had broken down Embarassed ). Bloke turns up an hour later, and asks "Did Direct Line authorise me to pick up a different bike?", I said yes and he didn't query it any further.

Decided to just drop the bike off at the garage since it was going there anyway, so he takes me up. Turns out the garage is in the middle of an industrial estate, where all the premises are done up like Fort Knox, and there's my little bike, with no locks and no alarm outside of the building! Shocked

Just about to get a lift up and lock and cover the thing, so keep your fingers crossed it's still there tomorrow! Confused

Industral estates are safe. I leave my bike outside one from 7:30-9:30 every night whilst at work. They have cctv everywhere and always someone watching. Well they do at the one i go to. Thumbs Up

Hopefully that'll be the case with this one as well then. Thumbs Up

I have just got back and have put my huge chain through the swing arm and back wheel, and attached it to this massive steel fence post, a smaller chain through the front wheel and fork, and removed the HT leads and put the steering lock on. The little b*stards will have to work if they want to pinch it! Very Happy

I think Direct Line are Greenflag or something like that. Give them a ring and say you want to make it so you are insured in any vehicle driver or passenger. I changed mine to that and was only about an extra 20 squid a year.

I only went with Direct Line because they were about a fiver cheaper than RAC (£30 instead of £35). Hope that doesn't come back to bite me on the ass now!

RAC are sweet as they cover the person - which is always nice when your best mate manages to drive his car into a ditch and you have to help him get it out!
