Im stuck I want to know whether to buy the Dainese Leathers (with lifetime guarantee) or settle for a cheaper set like RST or similiar.
As always I would appreciate the opinions of the masses and thier experiences as I am fairly new to it all and dont want to waste money

Regards

I've just bought Dainese. IMO they are worth the extra money. Cheap leathers may not hold well in an accident and i would rather pay that little bit more for the extra quality. I suppose you should get the best to what you can afford. Thumbs Up

Get your size and check eBay. They will probably have what your looking for at about 1/4 of the price.

The ones that fit the best with enough quality not to fall apart with the first touch to tarmac.
Personally i brought Richa trousers, nice fit and not killa on the price, and seem solidly made. each to there own.
Some people who have crashed in leather should be able to recommend real world expectations of quality.

I've never worn leather in all my years of riding, don't like it, and I'm not convinced about it being the be all and end all of saving your skin in an accident. I've been down the road a few times in things like parkas and donkey jackets, and ordinary plastic waterproof jackets and they've protected me. Surely leather is just for poseurs ?

And I think the all-in-one leather riding suits look ridiculous, especially in bright colours. Birds look good in them though.

Whatever fits you in all the right places!!

I've tried various brands of leathers, ended up with cheap leathers because they were comfy.

your joking right Question
why do you think gp riders/wsb riders wear them?
i have some frank thomas strike leathers, absolutely love them and i know they will protect my ass from tarmac burns in the event of an accident
nothing much protects you from walls, cars, lamposts though Evil or Very Mad

All I can say is it must have been a really low speed accident, either that or you must have some lovely scars to show the girls!

Get real! You should as a minimum wear a proper motorcycle jacket and leather will save your skin more times than a Millets Parka.

As to Dainese being worth the money, personally I would say yes. Any of the brand name gear is probably better made, longer lasting and more comfortable, they have their reputation to consider. I've had Daines and Alpinestars, both excellent (I prefer the Alpinestars as they are more comfortable) Cheaper brands will still protect you just as well, the choice is yours.

I'm currently looking for a leather jacket, I've tried a few on and Dainese seems to be the most comfortable. The shoulder pads seem to be more subtle compared to others which make you look like an american football player. Also the leather seems nice and soft and all the protection seemed to fit in the right places without you noticing them. Still debating whether or not to spend 320 quid on one though.

I'd be gutted if I spend 320 quid then fell off my bike and shredded it.

why spend HUNDREDS on off the peg Italian stuff (that we know is made in Pakistan) when for about the same amount you can have them custom made in the UK

Crowtree
Hideout
MJK
BKS

etc etc etc

It's not as expensive as you might think and you will always get a better fit than off the peg

especially if you are an odd shape like me

Rule of thumb #1...always buy the best you can afford.
Rule of thumb #2...you (nearly) always get what you pay for.
Rule of thumb #3...you might not get a 2nd chance to regret buying the cheaper stuff

HTH Thumbs Up

Hell yes, this is right on the money! How the hell will you repair/replace the bike, when your dead?! Rolling Eyes

Get the best you can afford, not after budgeting for the bike, etc, but first of all.

Also, big thought here, get the riding gear before you get a bike (if buying for the first time) as you will end up blowing your wadge on the bike and then won't want to wait until you can afford the gear. You will say things like "I'll take it ewasy until I get leathers"! don't even risk it. Most people crash (if they are going to by themselves) in the first year of riding. You will hurt yourself. also, no matter how careful you are, joy riders won't give a toss about avoiding you just because you are wearing jeans, that's your fault for not getting them.

Get the gear first, then get a bike you can afford, or start saving for one.

Sorry about the long post, but lots of people get this wrong, I did! Don't go collecting scars, they might be cool in the pub, but they ain't cool in the hospital!

Good call. If you do happen to own a set of leathers that are a bit loose, get a back protector, not just for your back, but to fill out the leathers, worked for me when racing in borrowed leathers! Twisted Evil
