Sounds ok. Quite low mileage and condition looks quite good. I would go for it. Offer maybe £1,650 - £1,700. Love those colours. Thumbs Up

Looks like the H frame is warped, right hand lower panel is a fiberglass replacement b the looks of things (spraying it to match the bike is an expensive job) combined with a smashed indicator show its been down the road, probably fairly recently.

Try and knock him down a bit for that.

Also check the bike over for other possible problems from the crash. It has replacement non standard discs so they should be allright. But check the front wheel, forks and head bearings.

Make sure that you can get a standard can for it if the one on it is a race can (looks like it).

Speedo is in KPH, so has it done 15k miles? 15k km? or are the clocks not original?

Check and see if it comes with the speed limit remover!

Check the bike over to make sure it's all okay, then try and knock him down on the points above.

Oh and turn the idle speed up a bit as it looks like it's ticking over at 1k, should be more like 1.5 Thumbs Up

Good points Iceman.

I'd pay £1500 tops, and that's if I reaaally wanted it, and the person wouldn't budge.

I'd go offer in at £1300.

The bike is 14 years old and has been over, and it's not back to original standard.

£1800 I'd expect MINT. It's not. Scuff on the rear plastic as well... If ther person hasn't got a standard can you might have to buy another standard one for MOTs...

Check consumables as well as a good test-ride.

As has been said before it seems a bit pricey for a bike of that age. if you can bid the seller then you might get yourself a good deal but at the moment the price is too high IMO

Terribly sorry for this going slightly off topic, but what's the "H frame"?

It is the piece of metal shaped like a giant H that runs from buy the front of the petrol tank up to the bak of the mirrors. It keeps the front fairing in shape and the mirrors in the correct place (they are wonky in the pictures). In the event of a crash it gets bent and can't easily be bent back to exactly the right shape.

That bike IS expensive, but it's May and everybody wants a bike for june, july and august so prices will be a fair bit higher this time of year.

If you have your heart set on a 400, or a VFR then pay £1600, a little over the odd's but they do hold their value well and are good bikes so making a small loss on the sale is acceptable.

Personaly i wouldnt pay more than £1300 for it, though i'm a tight git who tries to make a proffit on everything Wink

400's are soo overpriced.

If it were a H reg CBR6 with 15k it would be worth a lot less than a grand. Probably about £600.

Yet because its a 400 for some inexplicable reason this chap wants almost two grand!

The world is crazy IMO! Eh?

Thanks for that, DaFrostyOne. Learn something new every day eh? Smile

I think that 400s are expensive for the same reason 125s generally don't lose that much on thier value (not like bigger bikes) because there's more people able to afford to ride them. Insurance for a 400 for a 17/18 year old is probably cheaper than for a 600. When you're older (25?) it probably makes little difference. Smile

My Dads SV650 is 52 reg(I think) reg and has something like 1500 miles on. Think: Extreme fair weather rider. Far too many bikes suffer the same fate. Sad

It could happen, but a good check of the documents and a test ride should show anything up.

My CBR400 was £1300 and was in better condition that that, but with more miles. Miles don't mean everything as mine with 55,000 kms now and runs almost like new, and one with 15k could be "on it's way out". Could also be clocked which is why checking the bike out properly is important.

I've heard the VFR400 engines are good for 100,000 miles/kms. I've never known one to blow. Smile

It looks very nice Smile.
The only downside is that it's an NC30, with that hideous single sided swingarm...

But it's one of the better examples Thumbs Up .

Mis matched tyres on it as well - Pirelli front and Bridgestone rear :s

Like everyone has said, I'd don't think it's worth that much.

I did more than that this weekend....

I reckon a lot of 400cc grey imports are clocked as they come into the country.

Bare in mind that bikes aren't necessarily exported from Japan the moment they're took off the road(due to odd tax laws?), and they could also be kept in storage in this country for a while after being imported.

My Bros400 had done 50km since its last MOT when I bought it(had been MOTed 6months before). I've no reason to believe that its 18kmiles figure isn't genuine for a 17yr old bike.

i have been a long time lurker - new register as had to post to this

i have a g reg uk model vfr400r, that has 22 thou on the clock.
the bike in my opinion was bought for the following reasons - i wanted the best - desirable nc30/vfr400r - so i could sell it easy when i move up to a bigger bike - or keep it and watch it increase a small amount over the years

mint condition - as new
totally original
uk bike
red - white and blue honda racing colours
low number of owners

looked at quite a few - this one was 1700.00 no offers, dont you find when owners know their bikes are mint and cared for, they wont haggle

my first bike and happy as depreciation isnt something i have to get my head around Razz

i would add about the tyres if the front is stickier than the rear then it isnt that much as a prob since you could just slide if you lose grip, less grip on the front could be a bigger prob.
