Well the on going story of my buggered bike is coming to an end. I know the details of the engine damage now. As I suspected originally back in August. It appears to have been ran dry of oil at one point from when it was burning oil so quickly. Drank 3 litres in a month and I didn't even think to check till I noticed the bike playing up funny. It worked for a few months more before finally giving up.

Had a mechanic strip the top end and he said he could repair the damage he could see, but there's no telling what other parts are damaged and it just isn't worth the risk of spending silly money to have it fixed to have something else possibly go wrong a few weeks down the line.

The only chance left for the bike now is a replacement engine. The bike is sitting engineless just now in a workshop, so if I can find one soonish I can just drop it in and it's done. If not then I'm just going to call it a day. Sad

Does anyone have a good list of breakers I can start calling round?

Or if anyone knows anyone with a GSXR400R GK76a 1990 Standard (not SP) engine, then let me know ASAP please.

I'm just thinking, that's me had that bike a year and it's only been on the road for 4 months of that year. I'll never buy an old bike again, I can tell you that! Thumbs Down

I don't know whether online breakers are of any use but https://bike-breakers.info/web_pages/HomeFrame.htm

Is a free search site and I tried it a while back and while I didn't get what I was looking for from there I did get several replies from breakers. Only problem would be if it's a breaker down in England that has the engine you need, getting it back up here!

Thanks Izzi, seem to be getting a few replies from breakers already. They're all wanting £500 + VAT + Delivery so far though. Confused Can you usually haggle the price with breakers?

I know someone who payed £790 for a GK76a engine, fitting was £200 extra, then a few weeks later it was burning oil and needed new rings which was £200+ and fitting Laughing , hes jus forked out couple of hundred quid for loom, CDI and reg rec as they went recently too.

There cursed.

Just sell it, you'll get more in bits
