PostPosted: 19:32 - 09 May 2005    Post subject: No more bike for me Reply with quote

Yesterday my dad went to the showroom to put a down payment on a 2005 gixxer 600. I've been waiting for that moment for over 2years. It's my favourite bike and I was so ecited that he was going. Today he calls me up and tells me your mom is getting nightmares about the bike and I'm started to feel bad. I know that we can't say who will live or die but if something happened to you we would feel guilty. Then he said he's sad for telling me the news and that the money is mine if I want and bla bla bla. Then he started telling me stupid things like if I crash at 100 then I would fly off the bike at a speed of a 100. Obviously I think every biker knows the dangers of riding a bike. So i hung up and went to my room and slept on it. Woke up, and call my mom. I told her I would rather die young on a bike than an old man on a bike. I told her that it's a matter of time if they don't get me the bike then I'll get one a few years later so they aren't really stopping me. Then I told her I don't want a car insead.. Anyhow she was like I'm worried about you but I want to get it for you but your dad changed his mind when he saw the bike. He found a sticker on the speedometer saying 300km/h Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad fucking shop. My dad told me I could rent a bike as much as I want and make biking my hobby, but he doesn't get that it's more than that. I told my mom that the bike I rent is just as fast (cbr600rr) and that I could go fast on that one. Then I told her that cars can go over 250 aswell. She was like how fast do you go on the bike you rent. I was like my maximum is 160km/h on the motorway at 6am when there aren't any other cars. Laughing If you could hear the way she shouted.. "your dad doesnt go 160". Forget about the bike and I think I should take your license as well. She promised to talk to my dad but he's stubborn. Anyway, I'm just trying to relax myself by writing this. It's just that I went through alot to finally get them to become ok with biking. I paid alot of money on stuff and I wasted alot of time negotiating and contacting people and all that. Another funny thing was my dad has a habbit of talking bullshit. He always says things that are wrong about cars and computers as if he knows everything. So he was like it's a race bike his back will hurt after 1hour of riding Rolling Eyes . I ride the cbr for 5hours non stop and nothing happens... Anyway, sorry for boring you and bubye. For those who don't know I already have a zzr400 so don't really understand what their fuss is about.

Woah. I guess your fingers just got away from you. Smile

If you can afford it, just get one anyway. If not, just bide your time until you can. What your parents think shouldn't be so important compared to what you think, if they're speaking purely from a stereotypical view.

Having said that, I'd much prefer to die peacefully, an old man in my bed having ridden and enjoyed bikes all my life rather than just young on a bike.

As much as we love our parents there has to be a time in life when you say, bollocks, I'm doing it so there we go, get used to it.

Harsh maybe but thats life. save up for a bit and just do it, don't let them give you the guilt trip shit.

You'd rather die young on abike than old on a bike??? Why???

So you'd rather die at 20 years old on a bike than say 50 years old? You'd be missing out on a whole lot of riding there buddy!

I take it you mean you'd rather die young on a bike than old NOT on a bike Wink

Demonstrate your maturity to your parents and they'll worry less. It may take some time Karma

FWIW, my mum doesn't like me riding - but she also knows I'm pretty sensible and that I try to think about what I'm doing so I can become better (for me, better = safer, in terms of riding a bike) ...

lol, Jon B!

[Lee Evans]But it took a team of surgeons to remove that fag from my arse![/Lee Evans]

I've had this problem about my parents giving me a hand with my 2005 Yamaha R6... My dad would want to give me the money but he said he doesn't want my mother to say ITS ALL MY FAULT at the hospital! I was like, oh great, so you expect me to crash and die then! I said, "If you don't help me with the money, I'll just take more time to save and buy it anyway! and then die, who she guna blame next, Yamaha?"

And then stormed upstairs, now feeling guilty, offered me the deposit because I can get the rest of the money, just need time... so holding the bike! YAY Very Happy

Its all about psychology FE!!

This sort of thing pisss me off immensely.. its nice people care but if i dont complain about my friends or family driveing cars, personally i feel far less safe in a car, ever seen a car after hiting a tree at 50?

My uncle was killed on a moorbike in a very unplesent way by a drunk driver, if he had been killed in a car there would be no mention of cars being dangerous...

Rolling Eyes

Even better every time i take my girlfriend anywhere i get it off her parents too! drive carefully... aww crap, i wanted to ride us both into a lamp post and kill us horribly... pants... Rolling Eyes

Its hard not to take offence that everyone things your a lunatic because you use something with 2 less wheels for transport...

Wow all your parents are paranoid!!

Both my parents are bikers so my first bike was a present, and so far, I've had free insurance for 2 yrs.

My grandma does all the worrying about me on my bike.

Though I only crashed once, and that was in front of my mum, when she was riding a Goldwing 1200.

Fucking spot on.

I can't stand woosies who are scared of their parents. Parents are there to guide not dictate.

That moment came when i was 14. I've been allowed to do what i want since and i haven't yet majorally fucked up.

My mum might moan but when the shit hits the fan she's there for me and vice versa.

Yea, its a bit patronising someone telling you to actually be careful?? Because you're guna go out looking to hit a specific lamp post! Rolling Eyes

You could die getting out of bed in the morning, it's annoying that people think its a known fact that your guna seriously injure yourself riding a motorcycle especially if they haven't rid one! Like car drivers you have to be vigilant, probably even more so on a bike but people die in cars too.

So should we being saying 'be careful!' everytime someone you know goes out in a car?

Might be worth pointing out that just renting one occasionally on nice days will mean you're a worse rider than if you're riding regulary as you'll have far more road experience. You could try telling them some stories about car crashes (BBC New is probably a good place to look) to point out that cars aren't 100% safe either.

Git, I think the problem with Fire Eyes just getting a bike regardless is money related so not really an option. Unless as they've said the money is yours if you want it, get it and just get a bike anyway. Razz

My dad wasnt bothered when i told him i wanted a bike...i told them tht i will be on a bike since i was 15 and found tht i can ride when i am 16....

mum was a bit iffy abt it but my dad just went to her he cant be as bad as i was! (my dad has riden bikes since he was abt 13 in india!)

they have told me loads of times why are you spnding so much on a bike when you can get a very good car for the same price but i just telll them that biking is different! dad knows what im talking about i think...

17 now so i will get a car license too but probably wont get a car until i really need it. Maybe at 20 years or something if i dont want 2 upgrade the bike then!

Thanks for all the replies guys. The problem is money reltaed, if I had the money I wouldn't even ask if they liked me getting a bike or not. AFter all it's my life not theirs. Tried to get my brother to convince them but he's suddenly against me "you want to be happy and have them depressed, they are worried about your safety." I must say the power of a bike has saved my ass quite a fair times. And there are many times when I avoided an accident because I'm riding something thats is almost a quarter of a car's size. I'll try to talk to them today again. If not then I'll just ask him to give me the money plus the cost of the gear and all the bike related stuff.

Instigator I meant Exclamation I'de rather die young on a bike than an old man on a bed Exclamation .
