Just got a letter through today saying i'm going to be prosecuted for speeding down my road. Looks like they are trying to steal my birthday money. Neutral

As the saying goes, if you can't do the time don't commit the crime.
You broke the law, you got stuffed, only you to blame.
Sorry if it's harsh but that's life.

The important question is How fast were you going?

about 45-50 in a 30. I honestly thought the road was a 40. No speed signs anywhere and i haven't lived here long. Hopefully my dad will take the points because i am still restricted to 6 for another year. Neutral

My Instructor told me if your not sure of the speed limit, look down a side road (if there's one). If you don't see a sign your probably in a 30 zone.

I know what you mean GIT but i don't normally speed. In my 2 years of riding. (one on 33bhp license and 1 on moped) i have been past about 15 radar guns. This is the first time i have been caught. I can't risk getting caught again and loosing my license. My dad has 0 points and because he is 41 with over 10 years of no claims it won't affect his insurance that much, compared to mine. Neutral

Tip for next time...

If there aren't any roadsigns, look for streetlights. If the road is lit and the streetlights are close to the road, then it is best to assume you are in a 30.

Unlucky that you got caught so close to home. Thumbs Down

Depends. A lot of girls in my school had their insurance paid for by their parents, in that situation it made more financial sense for their Dad/Mum to take the points Wink

so even though you thought it was a 40.....by your own admission you were doing upto 10 mph over that anyway....so you knew full well you were speeding yet you still moan ....!!!

you are the only one with your hand on the throttle...you are responsible for your actions..

...grow up and take responsibility for what you do ....

Well there is another very very simple solution, which doesn't involve you having to ask someone else to take the points for you... Razz

i hate it when people moan about getting cought speeding. I can't afford anymore points either but i've done about 400 miles past week or so all meticulously staying within the speed limit even when people are moaning behind me. Feel like such a pleb driving that slow but it's gotta be done if your at the end of your points.

I havent got a bike yet and have no road experience but is it just me that thinks points or fines are better than a period behind bars, its only money and its your responsibility and you learn from your mistakes so once you've lost £60 you will remeber next time.

Happy Birthday. Thumbs Up

You stand to lose a hell of a lot more if you're disqualified and you rely on your licence to get to a job. Mortgage, house, marriage, family etc etc. That's why points are the great leveller. You can pay fines until the cows come home, but you can't get really very many points.

Personally, I think speeding in a 30 or 40 is asking for trouble and should be avoided. NSL roads are more for using your discretion and learning when it's safe to exceed the limit and when it's not.

I do have a bike which will only go 60 down a decent hill, so my viewpoint might well not be properly formed yet.
