Ok guys, quick question.
Milton Keynes to Warrington - 144 mile one way.
Using A roads only (L Plate Travel) how long do you expect it to take in all ?
Plus, is it possible on a RS125 every other weekend ?
How long before it goes pop ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n

It won't go pop unless you sit at high revs for a long period of time. I'm considering a long ride today for myself on my RS125, but thinking from Mayday, it makes your bum and legs hurt for a couple days after (plenty of penguin walking!!) ____________________ Alli x

Perfectly possible...
If it dosen't overheat (and it really shouldn't anyway) then there will be no problem with the bike (provided propper maintainance is done and rebuilds are done before the inevitable)...
There are far worse bikes to go long distances on
Wouldn't be my first choice (but there are not many 125s that would be) and it will be hard work, but totaly doable.
How long till your spine goes snap is a different question ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Hmmm, not the best distance machine the RS125, you'll probably get there just but whether you get back is another question.
Get yourself a four stroke if you wanna do miles! Or pass your test and get a proper bike. Theres a good training school up here in warrington. www.warringtonmotorcycles.co.uk |

FYI recent topics had jimster doing 220 (or 300) miles from Bradford/Harrogate to Oxford (see this and this thread).
Took 12 and a half hours on a CG125.
Maybe PM jimster for advice?
IMO probably not worth it on a two stroke.
A 4 stroke would be better reliability but even then a 125cc would need some TLC. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Well its either get a bike or a car.. but i really want to have the bike.
Only problem being my girl is living in warrington and weekends is all we get together.
True love takes me up and down hehe
(on trains at the moment)
Any ideas how long it would take ? or do you think by the time i get there it will be time to come home ? ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n

Get her to take the train down to come and see you lad lol
On an RS you could get there, would take a while, but you would get there, if your planning on going there, seeing her, and coming back in the same day i would forget it. You will find that very hard... ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

A cb125 would do the job quite well, comfy and slightly more power than a cg or the like...
only remotely good distance 125 is a varadero, known of people to ride theirs up to scotland and been quite happy with them on motorways even! (obviously at a reduced pace)
Get yourself a breakdown cover whatever bike you get, tyres still go flat and chains snap best to be prepared, 150miles is a long way to push anything ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

I think you could get to enjoy the journey in the summer months, when the sun is out and its warm etc... but with the weather as it is now, i can see you getting very annoyed and down hearted doing that in the cold and rain etc... ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... There are biger bikes that you could go up the motorway in total comfort, for £1000ish, but 125s are not designed for sustained 50/60/70mph stints...
Yeh and winter rideing is orrible when your not prepared for it..
As much as it pains me train is the better option here (only just mind!) ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes<

Hi
3 hours on a reasonable run. The bike would take it sometimes, but you will rapidly run the milage up. On my RS I change the rings every 6000km, which would be every 3 months with the distance you are doing, even if you do not use the bike for anything else.
Years ago when I first moved to Nottingham I went back visiting to Winchester most weekends. That was about the same distance, and I did that on an old Honda MBX125 2 stroke.
Personally I would not want to do it on the RS. Not what it is really designed for.
All the best
