PostPosted: 09:13 - 11 May 2005    Post subject: Lost my mate yesterday Reply with quote

What a day it was yesterday I planned a trip of 500km with my work and riding mate down through the southwest corner of Australia and headed off by 9.00 am tuesday morning 10/5/05 we had coffee and rode for hours to Capel, Balingup, Nannup, Karridale and then a place called Yallingup it's a major surfing town where he bought me a $15.00 lunch because I had no cash on me, then after there we exchanged bikes I rode his yellow Honda VFR 800 and he rode my ZX-6R back home. Turned out we rode for a total time of 5 and a half hours all up he said this was his first ride not work related he had been on since I took him to Perth to buy the bike you all may recall the time I told you about him riding off with the disc lock on and stacking it breaking the right hand side caliper mount and being stranded in Perth over night! and thanks to ZRX61 for the "Bannanas helping cure cramps while I ride" TIP I never had any soreness after I arrived home or a cramp for the whole journey, We then gave each other back our bikes and he rode off to see about two new Ducati Monsters for himself and his wife that was the last time I ever seen him. That night he was working overtime and on the way to work a car pulled out in front of him and he T-boned it. he was rushed to hospital by fellow ambulance drivers as he was a volunteer ambulence driver in his spare time too but died 3 and a half hours later from his organs shutting down he left a wife and his 12 and 11 year old boy and girl far too early and will be very sorely missed R.I.P. mate I still owe you $15.00 for lunch, I'll pay you back one day Crying or Very sad

I have not sat on my bike since he parked it in my garrage yesterday and I don't think I ever will, to think I was with him for his last day and took him pillion to buy the bike in the first place only for it to end this way has just proven to me that it's not how safe or careful you ride it's the traffic that can snatch your life away at the last second. My girlfriend says she doesn't want me to ride again and I think if I ever get back on a bike it will be a track only bike that I will trailer up to trackdays and such I always thought if there was one man who wouldn't be involved in such an accident it would have been him he was far too cautious to think any other and he could ride rings arround me in the twisties if he wanted too

one of my funniest memories of him was when I took him on the back of my bike to buy his VFR I could hear a whistling sound after 5 minutes I figured out what it was it was him stting up whistling the whole way! he wore a open face helmet and never stopped whistling at work and on a bike by the sounds of it! Whistle

Reading that nearly brought a tear to my eye. Crying or Very sad

Sorry for your loss, but seriously, don't make any rash decisions about never riding again, I'm sure he wouldn't want you to give up doing something both of you got so much out of! Thumbs Up

Really sorry to hear that Crying or Very sad

My godmother's daughter died a year ago, aged 26, 3 months after her marriage. At her funeral she said "I can only assume that god needed another teacher in heaven". (Jenny was a teacher).

Maybe the same can be said for bikers?

Hang in there. All our thoughts are with you, your friend, and his family and friends Sad

Sad Sorry for your loss.

Btw - don't make any decisions regarding bikes for a while at least. Remember, people die crossing the road every day...

I found a small article on the net of the accident apparently his bike looks like the day he bought it hardly a scratch on it since it slid down the road on the gear sack rack, foot peg and bar end unfortunateley the bike went one way and he went the other way and hit the car I believe he may have hit the brakes and swerved at the same time causing the bike to low side I have been to the area and I can't see why the driver did'nt see him. the only accident I have had was when I was riding mountain bikes and a car came screaming out of a rounda bout it was a fluro yellow escort and I slammed my front brake on hit my head on the back wheel of the bike as it endoed and landed on the trunk of the car.
the car did'nt stop and I can remember the feeling like it was yesterday the feeling of your life flashing through your mind it just scared me to hell https://www.abc.net.au/news/australia/wa/bunbury/200505/s1365184.htm
