PostPosted: 13:42 - 11 May 2005    Post subject: any suggestions??? Reply with quote

Hi

I was looking at getting a hongduo 125 but the feedback that was left made me think twice!

Was wondering if any1 has any advise what 125 would be good for a 1st bike. I am only 5"1ish so need a smallish bike.( I have seen the Suzuki Marauder its £2500 new and with a respray an extra £300 - £500) I do not really want to spend alot on this 1st one coz the chances are ill do my lisence with restrictions and will want to sell it next summer.

Many Thanks

Yamaha SR125 will suit you perfectly.

NSR125 Thumbs Up

You can pick up the older ones fairly cheaply & they not only shift but handle really well. The seat is really narrow so it being slightly taller than the SR or other cruiser types doesn't really matter. I can ride one fine, just avoid situations where you have to try and walk them backwards uphill, not an easy task. Embarassed Laughing

Don't know if they still make them new.
If your going to have it just for the summer, get a second had one for under a grand and sell it when you pass your test.

Pink ? Laughing

I'd suggest that if your going to ride the bike through the winter a cruiser style bike with lots of chrome and spoke wheels isn't they style to go for.
Unless you plan to keep it in tip top condition and clean it every day.

I feel offended that i was compared to miss piggy!!!!! In fact I have dark brown hair, blue eyes and im a size 8!!! not your stereotype girl who drives a bike!!!!!! I like girly clothes 2 and do not relate in anyway shape or form to miss piggy or the stereotype wife who rides a bike only because her husband/bf does!!!!!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH HAVING ABIT OF INDIVIDUALITY?????

A Honda LS125 is very small. My mates about the same height as you if not slightly smaller and thats what shes got and it still looks like a sports bike (just alot smaller). It aint fair either it goes alot faster than my RS125 because its got a derestricted NSR engine in it and I dont think theyr that expensive either.

A CG125 is pretty damned miniscule, and you could pick up one of those for £500-600. You don't really want to be buying new, the depreciation will bite, especially on a 125. My sister managed fine on a CG for messing about on, and she's 5'4" if she's lucky.

Have you looked at the EL125?
https://www.bikez.com/bike/727/index.jpg

It has a seat height of 26.8 inches apparently, 68 cm. It's reasonably heavy for a 125 (still lighter than the Hongdou you were thinking of though), but it's not too far down on power.

It's all about gaining confidence. You should easily be able to reach the ground on a CG125 or SR125 with both feet flat. Once you have become comfortable with the weight you will be fine to move up to something bigger. You can easily hold a bike with only part of one foot and can slide a bit off the saddle to achieve this.

You will be fine, you will just have to learn to be careful over roads with a nasty camber on them.

Many thanks for both your replies
