My GSXR600 has had the fairing repaired after someone knocked the bike over, the company doing the work repaired then fully re-sprayed the fairing which looked great then spoilt the job by applying the incorrect stickers (missing the GSXR logo) I left the bike with him on Monday and have just recieved a phone call telling me that the stickers damaged the paint when removed. does anyone know if the stickers should remove paint or has the guys spray work not been upto scratch ?

it looks like he could have put them abit to early and the paint hasn't set properly. tell him to redo it all as thats what you've paid for, or he might be able to re paint where the stickers where i don't know. don't compromise if he asks you to as this will effect the price when youcome to seel it.

Sounds like the people who have done job have put them on whilst the paint is wet or they haven't removed them properly - either way they've dropped a bollock (techical term Wink )

As it's been with them from day one I'd suggest that it's their problem and that they should call you when the job has been carried out as agreed at the time of you taking it in.

He is going to fix it but its just i am worried that his preperation before applying the paint is not up to scratch and thats why the stickers have brought the paint off, whats stopping me from putting my own sticker on and then taking it off to find its removed half the paint Sad

Plus i have just been outside and the weather is absolutely mint !! and the only form of transport i have is a bus ticket Sad i need my baby back !Smile

I find the best way for getting stickers off a bike doing the least damage is to heat them with a hair dryer, approx. 6-8 inches from the bike to the nozzle of the hair dryer. This drys out the glue and you can peel them off, then wash the residue off as you would normally wash your bike!

Never scrub them off with water as this scratches the hell out of your bike, trust me, I did that to a Hornet, not pritty. think all the bits of rubbed of sticker scrape back and forth over the paint causin the scratches!

With a heat gun? I should think so!! Laughing Wink

On a more serious note:
I keep meaning to take those stickers off my tank too, but haven't done it yet. I find a small amount of petrol on a cloth used to do the trick when I used to peel them off my dad's rally car as a kid.

Nowadays brake clean does the same thing. Sprayed onto a rag or cloth. Removes the sticky residue off really easily.

Just got my Mum's hairdryer out of the cupboard and took 3 stickers off in half an hour. I found a trick of taking your time and not trying to rip them off. This helped a great deal. I found getting rid of the residue was a bit of elbow grease and a dampcloth afterwards! Thumbs Up

I use a Halfords steam cleaner to lift stickers , it cost £20 and works wonders for tricky cleaning like inside the chainguard etc
works wonders for getting the rubber off after burnouts too.

i agree with phil,

youve paid for the job,
you expect it done correctly first time, id insist on it being sorted with no extra charge, as he is putting you at an inconvenience as you havent got your bike...he has

So long as it's not the type that instantly dissolves paint on contact.. you might not be too popular telling people to use brake clean on paintwork...

Adhesive remover. Has the same effect as WD40 has on rusted bolts. Penetrates under the sticker and degrades the glue and they just lift off no problem at all. Good stuff.
