I will be in the market for a 125cc learner legal bike soon. Assuming I don't make a complete balls of my CBT this friday.

On looking at ebay, auto-trader etc. Some bikes don't mention if they are learner legal or not.

Can I safely assume that the majority of modern bikes(less than 5 years) can be restricted to the legal requirements if need be?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

ANY bike can be restricted if you want it to be. Only 2-strokes will need restricting and all within five years can be.

Not simply.

Most are a washer in the exhaust that has to be physically removed, quite often with our friend the angle grinder.

Quite a lot of 125s make less power than the legal maximum anyway therefore no need for restriction.

It's highly unlikely the fact your bike is restricted would ever be checked...

Most if not all 125's are restricted.

Granted there are exceptions to this rule like the 2 stroke sports 125's like the Aprilia RS125 and Cagiva Mito can come in full power form and/or have been derestricted by their owners.

4 Stroke 125's like the CG or SR, are all learner legal with no provision for derestriction.

Oh and don't buy a derestricted bike thinking you can rerestrict it! Which you can't or if you did would be very costly!

i thought the legal requirment for riding after the cbt was any 125 or less, if you are on about the restricted licence then i didnt think even 2stroke 125s could produce over 33bhp.

"125cc and a power output of 11kw (14.6bhp)" Thats the limit quoted on the DVLA site. in other words if a 125cc has power over that then yer bollocksed or thats how I read it.

I'm referring to what I am allowed to ride after I get my CBT and I'm on a provisional license. I'm over 21 btw - alot over 21 actually. Crying or Very sad
