With my licence currently carrying 6 points, i'm a little more cautious than I used to be.

30 in a 30, 40 in a 40. Only really do silly speeds in the twisties away from towns. Don't often go above 80 on the motorway these days either.

2 years to go! Mr. Green

All the time, car or bike it dont matter. I drive/ride as fast as I feel is safe, normally since I'm on fast A roads and motorways thats all the time.

perhaps better to qualify it tho...

I often speed on NSL and dual carriageway/motorway, but never in a 30, and very rarely in a 40 if you're going thru a village.

all god and well if you feel safe, but you have to be aware that other road users may not expecting a fast approach, and misjudge your speed, pulling out on you.. not saying you're not aware.. just making the general point.

After getting my ticket i have been more sensible in built up areas. Cars have been overtaking me whilst i'm sticking to the limit which sucks but atleast there is a chance they may get caught and i won't. Twisted Evil

I'm hoping for that moment when i see the police man with the gun and i drive past in the limit and give a wave. Laughing

Away from towns i still speed as it's more safe/less chance of being caught. Thumbs Up

I am just about always doing over the speed limit

Now ask me if I am riding at an unsafe speed and I would have to say NO

If the traffic around me is doing 35mph to the next set of lights I do 35mph any thing else would have me at odds with the other road users and increases my level of risk.

The other side of that is I have often slowed down well bellow the posted limit due to the conditions even though the signage indicates 30 is a safe speed. e.i. Schools, bad roads, rain and the like.

Speed isn’t the issue it is inappropriate speed for the condition is so I ride and drive to the conditions and not a little sign that take no account of the conditions.

When in urban areas I will keep within 3-5% but once out onto 50+ roads , will open up (where safe)

All too aware of this, over 30,000 miles a year and every day I watch people not look or realise how quick people are going etc and just pull out on them.

Like to think I'm a very observant person - and would like to think my passengers thought I was a safe person (if not a little quick at times).

Everyday, motorways are quite empty in the mornings, usually sit at 90-100 most of the way to work.

Always keep the speed down in towns and built up areas both in the car and on the bike...

On the bike, I speed when I'm out on the A and B roads where I'm less likey to spank someone else.

I got caught once, well three times all in all.

06.45 hrs on a Sunday morning! No excuses.........

I eventually got 9 points within 6 months!

Then I was to scared to speed in fear of loseing my license. Was a little close to the 12 before automatic ban???

Still got 3 left at the mo.

At the mo I stick religiously too 30 and 40 limits. Once I am on the main road I do tend to actually stick too 60, but once on a dual carriageway or Motorway it's about 75-80MPH.

Also I don't stick too 20MPH speed limits cause most of the time they *really* are pointless. Why can't we have part time 20MPH speed limits for when the kids are generally going too and leaving school?

I ride as fast as its safe to do so, generally try to keep my eyes on the road as apposed to constantly checking the clock. I try to keep moving with the traffic, more-so to be safe. If everybody is doing 60 on a 50 road, you become a hazard to everybody and yourself by travelling slower... although I doubt this would stand up in court.

In all, its just about riding within your limit and be safe, I think so long as it looks safe you wont get pulled, its harder to notice somebody speeding at 90 on a motorway if everybody else is doing the same... although i'd think being a biker you'd be picked on a lot more.

Never reached 90 on my own bike... silly little 125 claims to do 80, but i doubt the clock is correct :-p.

Part-time speed limits would definately be a good idea, some roads are slower speeds solely for a couple hours a day where the traffic needs to be slowed down (i.e. schools), at other times in the day (like 3 in the morning) it should go up...

What he said - I don't ever speed in plated limits, usually ride within a few (10-15) mph of the limit in nationals ... it depends how busy the road is though - I'll keep my speed down on roads with lots of traffic and go a bit faster on quiet B-roads.

I've never had any points during the nine years I've held a car licence or in the two years I've held a bike licence Smile

I speed when it's safe to do so - so pretty much all the time.
It's rarely too excessive though.

We do. They're everywhere by schools. Speed limit 20 when lights flash. They normally work between 8-9 and 3-4 IIRC. There're often crossing patrols about then too.
