After some searching i have found myself a well looked after (if a bit tatty from standing) cx500eurosport... anyone who dosen't know its an 80s lardy touring bike...

Don't expect the handleing will be as good as my current bike but my rideing is fairly sedaited 99% of the time...

Anyone else downgraded their bike (through not being able to handle the cost maybe?) and been truely glad of it?

( + anyone know good places to sell? admag? can't be doing with ebay scams e.t.c. Sad )

One of the reasons I bought the MZ was because I was riding the GPZ everywhere at three figure speeds and was going to loose my licence sooner or later, needed something slower. I suppose that is a downgrade of a kind.

blimeh, i'd sorta loke a 200vespa, just for (very) short trips.. as a main bike Shocked still more fun than no bike...

superdreams are ok, 250 might be worth looking at too if you havn't got many 70mph roads to deal with.. i'd have a cx or gt550 over one of them though.. when you say cheap how cheap are you after? depends how far your work is away...

SW- you mean the big mz? i'd have thought it was as fast... (have you got it all fixed and sorted yet?)

I actually prefer buying older bikes. They may not be quite as good as a modern bike, but they are so much cheaper to maintain (cheap spares etc).

Nah, tops out at 95-100mph. I've seen 130 on the clocks on the Kawasaki. Same bhp and more torque on the MZ though.

Haven't got it back yet, insurance asessor is being a tw@. Arse kicking boots will be going on shortly, I am going to keep kicking 'till he writes it off. I don't want it back after it has been ragged offroad for 200+ miles by some wee scrote.

I "downgraded" in March, chopped my Hayabusa in for a 1999 R6.

I did it for similar reasons for Stinkwheel, I was cruising everywhere between 100 - 150 mph. The other reason I did the swap was because I've not been riding for too long and I wanted to learn how go around corners quickly (you get a bit lazy on the busa).

Oh and insurance went down from £800 tftp, to £129.

I do miss the busa sometimes, as I'm not keen on going everywhere at 10k rpm+.

SW- You know the thing that worries me most about haveing my bike stolen or crashing is all the shite afterwards, especially as i only have one bike...
Hope the brick headed spong weasels get it sorted quick Thumbs Up
(they really are arse ends though, not everyone has more than one vehacle, what would they have expected to do if you didn't have a spare? turds.. Evil or Very Mad)

Me too, this bikes not too bad to work on but the modern equivilent must be a total nightmare! fiddley and loads of electrionics to go wrong Thumbs Down
Not just that forgeting specs + cost they are often a bit more sturdy and less "mass produced"

Busa to an R6, blimeh dosn't life suck sometimes Razz But yeh some bikes are just too easy to ride... which is good when you want to go from a-b but less good when your wanting a bit of a blast about the twistys... this is why imo fastest dosen't = most fun

Update...

Just sold my transalp.. put it on ebay at 11 last night, e-mail at 12, phoned the next day, they picked it up an hour ago (they had the trailers tyre explode on the motorway! hence the being very late!)

Feels very weird to have no bike in the garrage, very weird Sad

Going to miss it more than i thought, but think the right thing was done..

Worst thing is the old fella i'm buying my new bike off is away till monday! so empty garrage till then!!! Shocked

Feel like i'm about to have the snip and just saw the nurse sharpening the scalple Confused Sick Sad

A few years ago I bought an old Susuki SB200, similar to the X5 (or was it X7) and it was fantastic. I was in trouble and needed a cheap runner and I bought this bike for £75 which kept me going for a while.

My first ever geared bike was a Susuki GP100, I would love to own one again, or perhaps an old 250 wet dream.
