I was let-off doing 60mph in a 30 limit by two bike coppers with a hand-held speed gun. They waved me in and asked me why I was doing that speed (to safely overtake an old dodderer who had been doing 20mph in front of me for three miles).

He expressed surprise that I had been able to stop my vehicle in a controlled manner in the space available (which I think is what got me off), asked for my name address and date of birth (which seemed to be enough evidence for him as to my identity when checked against my registration) then pulled out his book of tickets, smacked me across the back of the helmet with it and told me not to do it again. I fully expected to get a ticket until that point. He was calm and polite throughout.

Contrast this with the next time I was stopped for speeding at Lockerbie where a red-faced gentleman, virtually apoplectic with rage asked me what the bloody hell I thought I was doing, informed me that I was doing 98.6mph and commented that he thought I was going a lot fucking faster than that (which I admit I had been). He then proceeded to berate me for weaving between lanes and overtaking everything in sight (I had in-fact been passed myself by several cars in the previous five miles and had not left the middle lane for some 20 miles). I was then cautioned, informed I would be reported to the procurator-fiscal, handed a producer and sent on my way with the oppinion that I should be banned from driving.

I was let off by what the coppers claimed was 70mph in a 30 zone. Was really doing 84, but I wasn't about to inform them of that.

I was just comming into Pontefract a few weeks back. I actually over took the White unmarked Vauxhal and realized it was cops because they speeded up when they was origionaly tootling along.

I cruised at 5mph above the limit and the pulled me and gave me a warning. The road has been dropped down in speed just resent so I guess thats why they was patrolling that stretch.

I am always carfull when travelling thro town and villages, besides, how can anyone see your wicked bike if you speed past, besides 2, I ride a ZX12 and have nothing to prove Laughing

Note the front page of todays guardian...(possibly yesterday's, and possibly not the guardian).

A police man was let off for doing just under 160mph.

His post is in reference to that.

Never been caught, ergo never been let off.

without trashing the post, the newspaper report mentioned that officer had firearm training. Like the whole of the armed forces has funnily enough, it has nothing to do with his speeding really.

If you are firearms trained then you are trained to do those speeds with one hand on the wheel, and the other out of the window shooting at the car you are chasing, so both hands on the wheel is childs play Laughing .

All the best

First one was a speed camera. I got flashed doing about 50 through a 30 (it wasnt a built up area, was just before i came into a town- no flames please Embarassed ) I was shitting myself everytime the postie came for the next 2 weeks.

about 6 weeks ago i got pulled for speeding. I was on a dual carridgeway, and a copper was coming onto it down a slip road, and i was doing 80 (50mph limit Embarassed ). The copper was on her own, and she said she "didnt have the docs to give me points/fine/whatever". She just told me to slow down, and that the roads are greasy cos it had rained recently. She was quite a nice copper. The blue flashing lights browned my pants slightly...and leaving the scene without even a producer just left me giggling all the way home

If so many of you have been doing 60+ in 30s, I don't think you've got much grounds to complain about someone doing 80 in a 30. It's not really much worse.

72 in a 30, was really over a ton pulling a wheelie into the euston underpass but they missed that part as they couldn't get the gun on me quick enough.

Charges dropped after I paid the fine and they apologised.

Did I deserve to get off? no but the Police should have followed the law and not guidelines thus trying to do an illegal prosecution,
