Well im going to be purchasing a brand new 4 stroke bike.
I was wondering out of the following people would reccomend for mainly commuting round Town and the odd twisty country road.

My choices are:

Honda CBR125
HondaXR125
YamahaXT125X (Supermoto)

Which would people reccomend and yes im buying a new 125 because my mum is paying and will probably be keeping it for a good couple of yrs.

please dont suggest i buy a 2 stroke because i've tried them for commuting and they aint great!

I've ridden the CBR and b ack it 100%, excellent for commuting and fun on twisties, may not have the speed of a 2t but it does move quick for a 4t 125 and goes round corners like its on rails

Have you ridden a 4 stroke 125 on a 'commute' route?

Personally I would stick with a (derestricted) NS125 over any 4 strokes I've ridden... allthough it feels like you have to work it more, you go faster for it.

If your riding is mainly in town I'd look at a trail style one, otherwise the CBR.

Had you considered a trail style 2 stroke; these have a broader spread of power than the sports ones; infact may have more power throughout the rev range when derestricted than the 4 strokes I reckon.

There is no 'best' four stroke in this world.

As it goes,

"If Carlsberg made 4 stroke 125's, they certainly wouldn't be the best 4 stroke 125's in the world".

If ever I wanted to buy a 4 stroke 125, which hopefully I won't, It would be out of either the Hyosung Comet or the Sachs XTC. Failing that, I could always nick lilredmachine's stunning 4 stroke MZ Wink

Out of the ones you said though, I most probably would go for XT125, because of the supermoto design. 5'10 on a CBR is probably acceptable. My mate has one, hes just over 6 ft and quite chubby. He just looks like a complete muppet when hes riding. Its laughable.

Well its a choice between the cbr and the xt i think.I dont know why but i dont really want a 2 stroke because they seem high maintenance and. I just need reliable good looking commuter so thats why im after the 4 stroke commuter, for my daily commute from Bolton - Bury and Bolton - Manchester Airport through the city centre.

The RS and Mito are high maintenance, but then they also produce double the power of the CBR. Something like an old TZR would be lower maintenance than the CBR (after all, on a 2 stroke there are no valves to adjust, no cam chains to wear out, far less frequent oil changes, etc).

All the best

Best would be the CBR125, but in real life and taking into account money and stuff the best one you can get would be a basic CG125, SR125 or similar for as cheap as you can that has had it's servicing kept up to date.

You will get bored of any 4-stroke 125 within a short psace of time, so believe me and bear in mind that you will be wanting up upgrade within a year.

True i may be bored but i do like the look of the cbr's. And the fact that it beats my clapped out Nova for getting to and from Manchester Airport suits me. Just want a good looking commuter to be honest. Get a bigger bike all in good time.

The CBR looks like a kiddy's play thing. Its ridiculously small. You have to be around 5ft 4 to actually look alright on it.

I say the Sachs. Thumbs Up

Yea but the sachs xtc125 brand new is about £3500 I think. I own the 2 stroke version. To be honest just go for a cheap one I wouldn't have thought theres that much between them just in styling and maybe one pony.

The 4 Stroke XTC can now be picked up for £3000. Im unsure why they have had a sudden price drop!

I would highly recomend a Hyosung Comet GT125 as a good 4 stroke 125. I had one for the best part of six months and commuted back and forth from work on it. Very good for short journeys and also quite fun on the twisties too Very Happy Also another good thing about the Comet is that it is close to the size of a naked 500/600 so it gives you a good feel of larger bikes.
