Hi everyone,

I need some help. I have recently bought an Aprilia RS 125, still restricted. But i need some help on accelerating. My bike is very fast but i think it can go faster, acceleration ways anyway. I ussualy change gear at about 8000 revs, i want to change after that but it doesnt half make a lot of noise and just doesnt sound good. What should i do? Also when i start off from a junction im still very slow, any tips?

Cheers

8000 is when the fun begins, thats when you should nail it..dont change gear till just before the redline.

Don't worry, it still probably makes a hell of a lot less noise than your average ducati etc.

You can go right to the red line; infact small 2 strokes often run better if they are ragged a bit.

To get 'good' starts you need to use the clutch.
To get a really fast start (I wouldn't try this just yet) you rev to the redline.
For now try a little lower, you then hold the clutch so that it still slips slightly... so to the biting point and a little bit further out.

You have to keep the revs up, so you let the clutch out rather than the throttle. Once you've got used to the bike and done it a few things it should come natuarly.

Have your bike checked out dude. If you've been riding it for a while without giving it a good blast, the power valve might be jammed. You'll know if it's jammed if when you hit 8000rpm and the bike doesn't take off like a rocket. You might just need it cleaned out.

Woops. I just read your original message again and noticed that you said the bike is still restricted. Which means that the power valve probably isn't connected and the CDI box gives you a flat spot at around 4000rpm - 6000rpm. Restricted RS125's are a bloody nightmare to ride. Maybe you should get it de-restricted. It becomes a totally different bike.

18aprilia. There's no way you got 110mph out of an RS125 with 2 up. You'd be lucky to get that with one up. The most i ever got out of mine was 100 - 105 with only me on it.

You'll only get a blast at 8000rpm if the power valve is connected. It kicks in around 8000rpm

Rs125 speedos are amazingly innacurate. You'll probably find that it was reading 110 MPH when you were actually doing 90 or so. Some have seen 125 MPH on their speedos Laughing
