I've some how managed to chip my barrel just above the exhaust port so basically it needs re-plating.

I've been quoated £105 thats without my p&p to send it off to get it sorted back to normal.

Then i will need a piston which for a decent piston is around £90.

Then obviously i will need a top end gasket set which i can get for £20 delivered to my door.

So here im looking at appox £220-£240 including all the p&p plus the hassel and time off sending the barrel off.

I've seen a Mikata barrel, piston kit and top end gasket set for £180 brand new.

This would be alot easier for me, its cheaper and i get it all in one.

But it this Mikata barrel kit any good? will it last as long as the original barrel? and does it have the slot so i can re-fit my power valve.

cheers for any help, TECKY

Hi

From all accounts th quality of the Makita kit is fine. £180 is a good price for one.

All the best

Oh the perks of having an RS.

I would have thought re-plating would be cheaper than that. You could also consider chrome plating the barrell.

Chrome plating is just a generic term for the replating.
Cost is normally £100 give or take £5. You can get decent pistons for less than £90 (an original Rotax one is less than that, just), such as the ones that come with the Makita kits.

All the best

Hi

Check on Ebay as they are there quite regularly (but £180 seems like a very good price).

All the best
