Anyone else get this?

If I have been riding my bike for a sustained period, usually on a sunny but slightly chilly day like Sunday was. The following day I get really nasty sinusitis. Nose is running, and nasal passeges inflamed right to the back of my throat. I will wake up tomorrow morning with a load of gunk on my chest then probably get a cold

I put this down to the air from the vents in my helmet squirting air straight up my nose. My other helmets do it too. When I was using my bike for commuting every day at college, I was never able to breathe through my nose because of this, even resorted to wearing an open face helmet and shamagh which was no better.

Have got it now and again, had never really connected it with riding the bike though. I think being in a place with thousands of other people bringing new germs in has more effect on me. Fresher's flu is infamous here.

I used to suffer from sinusitus when i was younger really quite badly. Used to come on when id been out on a windy day sometimes, other times for no apparent reason.
The problem with sinus' is that they drain from the top.......stupid but fact. If your drainage hole is too small it can trap mucus and other fluids which can fester and go bad. This inflames the tissue that lines the sinus'. I had an Opp on them to sort it out, and ive never suffered again. Its really simple....they basically make the hole bigger using a metal rod and a bit of force (makes you wince lol!)
Most painful bit is when they pull the wadding from your nose. What you expect to be a small piece of cloth turns out to be a 3ft long handkerchief with knots in it, goin down your throat! (which you cant feel bcos of teh anaesthetic)...is like being in a magic show, only your the hat.
They pull this out of your nose and it feels like your face is gonna come off with it Confused Shocked. 4 hour nosebleed then ensues lol.

100% reccomend the opp though, 1-2 days recovery and you'l be fine forever.
Dont keep suffering, i know how horrible it is. Sudafed Max is very very good at killing sinus pain though Thumbs Up

Kaben,

Interesting you mention that. My brother recently had a hole drilled up his nose too. I wonder if it is hereditary?

Try this test

Go and buy one of those speedo nose clips.
Place on nose.
Place upon ones head the helmet in question
Get on bike
Ride bike in a fast and furious manner.
Stop.
Remove nose clip
Remove helmet
Can you breath normally?
Yes?
Problem solved

It used to work for me when I had really bad hay fever in my younger days.

Wrap around glasses (1960's Grand Prix style) might also help.
