Hi all, been a few weeks since I posted anything, As you may recall I was waiting for a cast to come off my arm for the broken thumb I received when my lovely 03 R1 launched itself (and me) into orbit.
I bought a 2001 RRY Fireblade whilst recovering, and have finally got on the thing after two months of convalescence Shocked !

I have been on a few 100 mile trots on it, and a 200 mile half day with a mate, first impressions were it is not too bad. Comfort is certainly better, and I quite like the looks. Steering is pretty light and neutral, I think I'll have a look at the suspension settings, because at times it feels a little soggy, back to standard settings first methinks.

However top end power is waaaaaay down on either of the R1's I have had, so feels it a bit slow (!) when thrashing it, and low down delivery needs some work, which I will get onto now.

There is a HUGE hole in the power at low revs, I have read that it is there deliberately to pass noise or emmision regs, something like that, anyway I think it is bloody dangerous! For example, going round a smallish roundabout on light throttle, the revs hit 3500 and BOOM! Full power back on! Its like having a turbo, in a bad way!
I am not one for fettling my bikes normally, but I think a power commander with an appropriate map is the answer, has anyone ever had one? I read they are easy to fit etc, but can anyone recomend it or something similar? Thanks peeps ps sorry for the long post!

Hi

The engineered in flat spots are normally at higher revs than those (normally around half the red line). Sounds more like someone has screwed up the jetting, maybe doing a half arsed job of fitting a can or a complete system.

All the best

Well, it is totally stock so that eliminates that, and I saw this:

Hi

Possible, but as far as I know the noise test is done from half peak power so a flat spot at 3500rpm would be useless to help there.

Mind you, Honda are known for regularly screwing up the set up of their fuel injection systems.

Check things like the throttle position sensor, air filter, etc first.

All the best

I have a PC fitted to my cbr600 my flat spot was at 5k though.
The PC cured it and improved response and the general jerkiness also improved fuel consumption by 20 miles a tank. Smile Picked mine up on ebay (American) , For £160 delivered , Hope this helps.
