The oil filter was held in my GS125 for about 500 miles by a adapted bit of old frying pan. Bolts make good fuses. Many of my gaskets are made out of cornflake packets (gearbox, carb, and another one somewhere)

smotobob i belive. I haven't had many bodges. My dad drove back from London before using string to hold his rear brake caliper in place. Shocked He got a parking ticket as well when he was trying to attach it.

Thats really it. Have only been riding for 2 years so i'm sure i've got some to look forward to in the future. Very Happy Thumbs Up

cardboard makes a perfectly good gasket, I would cal that a good fix rather than a bodge.

A mate of mine stuck a broken calliper lug on the front fork of his BMW with araldite to get it through the MOT...That is a bodge!

Not myself but a cx owner found the the shaft drive caseing had rotten away (quite common if not carefull of it) a previous owner had used bumper filler to repair the huge hole and painted it over... Rolling Eyes

um... Asda bag on my old cgs coil, which i did...

All part of the fun, and if a bodge works then its not a bodge Razz (presumeing its not going to do anything dangerous or suddenly fall off) Some bodges are far better..

exmple, exhaust gasket made from tin foil and kitchen towel, costs about 50p, official honda on lastsquater of the time and costs £15 or so Rolling Eyes

I think most of my bike is held together with WD40.

I couldn't find/bodge a good enough bracket to hold my front mudguard onto my old MZ, so I got some massive bolts and put a squillion washers on it to pad it out.

Worked quite well I suppose.

I don't tend to bodge, I either fix properly or go without.

My Top bodges:

Getting a tyre through the MOT by deepening the tread with a stanley knife.

Robbing the pillion footpegs from my mates bike after i crashed mine-i was going to sell it the next day. Kawasaki Z1100 pillion pegs fit Hyosungs apparently.

Holding front headlight brackets together with my laces so it wouldnt drop and make the lamp point at the sky.

My float bowls are now mostly JB weld after being run over by my son on his tonka trike thing and hastily repaired.

My old GT550s Carb diaphragms mere mostly rubber tent patch glue.

Used chemical metal to fix the threads on one of the front brake calipers bolt holes where the bolt holds the halves together.

Ok, From the start! Laughing

Used a bit of kitkat wraper to bypas my blown fuse to start my ped.

Had no tail light filament so I put a 5p coin under the bulb so the brakelight was permenantly on until I got a replacement.

My exhaust was held on with a bungie strap for about a month when the bracket broke.

made an indicator cover from orange selotape when my mate took it out at the trafic lights!

Was wet and air filter was soaked so I used a sock as a replacement "Get you home" Filter.

Frosties box for my inlet manofold gaskets.

had to carry a plug remover and blow torch with me to preheat my plug on cold starts. Laughing

I believe a good adage i heard a while ago about bodging/biker mechanics was. You only need two tools. Duck tape and a hammer.

If it moves and it shouldnt, ducktape it.
If it doesnt move and should, hit it with the hammer

Mr. Green

Stuck to tha religiously i have (hence fucked sump plug thread Laughing)

A get me home bodge, I once got a nail in my rear tyre causing it to go flat, 90miles from home at almost midnight in a closed petrol station, after a few cigs and a bit of head scratching I came across a rather large self tapping screw on the floor of the forecourt, spark up another cig, out with tool kit and you know where the screw went. Got me home had a new tyre next day Thumbs Up

the clip on my split link failed once on my RS50, causing my chain to fall off. Luckily i came to a stop next to a layby, with beer cans. I used a ringpull off one of them to hold the links together. It lasted out 2 miles of 30mph!!

Jeese, some of these threads are great, I thought I was a bodger.

I once managed to get a CR125 end can section on my TS125, sounded loverly, held on by drilling the frame and then tying with cable ties.

Years ago I had a Honda 55o four and the cam chain tensioners broke. I couldn't get one the head nuts off due to a combination of dodgy cheap tools and rounding the nut off. I ended up taking 3 evening poking a chisel through a tiny gap in the fins and hitting the chisel with the hammer to chip tiny bits away from the nut until it eventually fell to bits and I could get the head off.

I then replaced the tensioner but realised just after I'd put the cylinder head back on that it put it on the wrong side of the chain. I started taking the head off again and rounded off another nut!

Eventually I just levered the head up, swapped the tensioner round, tighten everything back up and took it coughinhg and spluttering back to the place I bought it from, swapped the bike for another one and got away with it. Went out and bought some decent tools after that.

I also had an old Toyota that blew a piston and as I was about half a mile from the car Auction I filled it up with gearbox oil, turned the tickover right up and sold it. Mind you whilst I was there I bought a replacement car which turned out to have no reverse gear...

Superglue is wonderful stuff. Confused One reason for not buying a Chinese bike is that they want to take the title for bike cancer away from Kawasaki. My mirror, my front brake switch (was, before it broke into pieces), my speedo cable, my left rear indicator are all held together/ in place with superglue or liquid nails. The latter is pretty useless.

There aren't too many original bolts/ nuts left on the exhaust, seat, rear mudguard and rack either. Neutral I lost my left rear suspension top securing nut the other day. The suspension wouldn't shift along the mounting pins with a hammer, so I just rode to a local bike shop and got another for free.

I think deepening the tread with a stanley knife takes top prize. Laughing

Hmmm, gotta love bodges! Very Happy

I've not really bodged that much. Fixed some dodgy electrical connections with a well placed wedge of cardboard to hold them firm.

Made a massive spanner out of an old sprocket once to undo something big. Can't remember what now though.

When replacing the seals in my ZXR forks, bodged a tool out of some wooden curtain rail to undo the nut inside the forks at the bottom. Was proud of that one.

So, no serious bodges on my bikes yet.

Helped a friend put a new tyre on once though. Exploded it on with some lighter fuel! Mr. Green

previous owner of varadero had lowered it by:

drilling through the rear shock lincage.... moving the rear shock lincage to this new location...fine you may think..if done well

but it had been drilled wonky, so when i got the bike home i noticed the rear shock had about 5mm of metal left before it broke free....

that could have been very very nasty Sad

the rear shock is now back in origianal place and the rear shock lincage welded and reinforced.

fork oil had also been taken out of each leg to lower the bike. giving it dodgy handling, once that was sorted the bike handled like a star

simlple
