 |

Happened to notice smoke pouring out of my exhaust somewhere near the end can when starting it for a friend last week. Today is the first day i had the chance to look at it. The pictures show what i found. There are 2 holes, one pretty much at the join from the silencer to the end can and one around half way on the end can. I noticed these holes before but they are getting bigger, it looks like the wheel has been rubbing the side of the end can. Will these holes affect the noise its making or the back pressure at all? Ta guys! ____________________ Will work for petrol

I fancied the idea of making some twin pipes for her, but apparently it will screw the backpressure! The bike is around 30 years old, so im just either going to have to weld it or get nearest fit, no way is that the original exhaust system anyway! ____________________ Will work for petrol

Its a BSA Bantam (D14 methinks) looked up the engine number, says it was made in June of '69...a good year for bikes, a bad year for beer it seems...... I got in touch with dad, the endcan is getting picked up tommorow morning to be welded (havent got my welder yet!) Then we'll need to figure out how to space it away from the wheel. As for electrical problems, the bike was a complete non runner when i bought it, completely rewired it, i was just thinking a minute ago, i really need to add a killswitch! Once the exhaust is fixed, ive just got to do a few more things, sell it, then get to work on my custom with the money I started a thread keeping a diary of when i rebuilt the bike at the start called "the bantam diaries"...although its in the Scottish thread, so you need to be part of the scotland usergroup to view! ____________________ Will work for petrol

Yeah, it runs, but not perfectly. I wouldent really call them unreliable, if she is treated right she'll run great. As for slow, well she can hit round about 65mph in top gear on flat land, and she's got enough torque to climb a wall, but she wont keep up with modern off road machines. As for the handling yes, the handling sucks to the extreme, ive had so many offs on her at medium speeds. But she's been working for 30 years...and tbh i dont see modern bikes getting anywhere near that sort of age, so i guess they just dont make em like they used too. If carlsberg made bikes, the bantam would be close ____________________ Will work for petrol
