The very wonderful Gracie Jones ensured that I got back onto a bike last weekend when he pillioned me to the BMF show. I was a bit apprehensive, but he took great care of me.

However, getting back on the front end is a bit more scary. I'm just back from taking Sylvester out. The seating position on the Bandit is ideal for my shoulder injury. Even if the Kwaka was in any shape to ride, I probably couldn't ride it, due to the seating position.

Panic not, the Doc did say I could do it if I felt up to it.

The position at the moment is I may still/probably will require surgery on my dislocated shoulder (depending on the success of physiotherapy) but in the meantime I can ride the bike and do all the usual things as long as I can endure the pain and discomfort.

So I walk the seven and a half stone Akita and ride the Bandit and then take painkillers and sit with a bag of frozen peas on my shoulder. Rolling Eyes Laughing

how long has it been since your spill?

Is it nerve damage? if so it will probably heal in time, till then pump yourself full of painkillers and go for a blast Razz

ull soon pick it up again.

Only just seen it Razz

Glad to hear it's (relatively speaking) on the mend. If nothing else the Akita should give the physio a run for his/her money in terms of the amount of exercise you get Wink

Any further news on the kwak or cause of the accident? Police manage to find anything on their oh so prevalent CCTV cameras?

awwwwwwwwww...!

*pat, pat*

To be hoenst, I'm surprised you can get on the bike so soon. Shocked Redd, another member on here, crashed his bike and he'll be another 2 months (physio says 3!) until he'll be able to touch a bike!

Whats happening with the ninja then? Apart from looking sorry for itself Sad

Surely you can get someone else to walk the monster dog? I'm sure you'll be all too familiar with what its strength can do.

Anyway, hope the physio works and you can get away without surgery. Thumbs Up

Oh, Sadie's not a young sir. Smile

No, I haven't heard from the police and I'm not having much faith in them.

My doctor said that he would be telling anyone else 6-8 weeks, but he suspected that he'd be lucky if I stayed off it for three. Actually, when he examined it and when my physiotherapist looked at it, they both were quite astonished at the lack of bruising. I showed them the photos of the bruising that I sustained and they couldn't believe how quickly my body appears to recover.

The Ninja is still in my garage. TBH, it's borderline write-off but my mate Bryan is coming over next weekend to help me get the fairings off. After that we'll get a mate who does MOTs to check it out and see where we'll go from there.

The monster dog has actually been (a) very well behaved and (b) a good reason for getting out of the house and not feeling sorry for myself, so the least she deserves is to go walking with her Mummy! Laughing

That's f*cking hardcore man Cool Laughing Nah, its good that you're able to get back on the bike so soon. Also heard ages ago that riding a bike is supposed to be good for the back, although that could be b*llocks.

Well done for getting back into riding but dont rush it as you might aggrivate the injuries and may slow the healing process. Get well soon. Smile

Thats the spirit, get straight back on.
Have you got any photo's to show of the crash/injurys?

p.s- just to put the guy right about the Nerve injury. Nerves do NOT get better, once you are paralized you are fucked, I talk from experience as my right arm is half paralized from a bike crash.

See here.

Guys, I've been riding for 21 years. There's not a chance in hell I won't get back on a bike after an accident, even if it is just a bike hearse! Laughing

It's not my first off, and I doubt it will be my last, but it was probably one of the most serious, and it is always a bit unnerving getting back in the saddle.

That wasn't road rash, it was a bruise.

Thankfully, due to extraordinary healing ability (according to my Doc) all the bruises have now gone, leaving me merely with a dislocation!

Thanks, honey. Noted and appreciated. Once we have decided that the bike is not a write off (fingers crossed) I'll probably take you up on your offer.

Thumbs Up

You're wrong. Nerves can and do grow back. I used to work at the Services Rehabilitation Centre when it was still at RAF Chessington, and I was amazed at some of the recoveries I saw there. Unfortunately, I have no idea how often this happens or what differentiates one person from another in terms of recovery, but I have seen a para who broke his arm at the shoulder & severed the nerves at the same time go from having no movement at all in his hand to being able to squeeze a tennis ball. Took about 18 months.

Nerves can grow back at the rate of roughly 1mm per month. The problem comes if they don't grow back to the place they are supposed to. Cut a nerve with a scalpel and it will eventually recover, although it has to grow back from the point where it was cut down. Cut a nerve then move the ends apart, not so good.

Glad you are back on the road sadie. Sounds like you have a helpful physio too. In my experience when you ask them when you can ride a bike again they come out with something facetious and unhelpful like "You shouldn't be riding motorbikes anyway then you wouldn't be here".

I remember a mate telling me his physio nearly had kittens when he turned up for his appointment with his left hand in plaster and his helmet hanging off the elbow of it Twisted Evil
