I had my rear tyre blowout today when I was doing over 100. Confused Shocked Such a weird feeling.
I think the car drivers in the inside lane saw what was happening and backed right off to let me get to the hard shoulder. Thumbs Up
Managed to ride it (very slowly) off motorway and to the garage which was luckily only about a mile away.
F*cking hell though I always thought a blowout meant you were gonna crash and at those speeds die. Neutral

I had a rear tyre flat at those speeds.

Didn't realise for a bit until the motorway curved a bit tighter, then though it was maybe shit on the surface Confused.

Didn't have indicators either, so had to try and gently get accross lanes with hand signals Confused.

Glad your ok Thumbs Up

Blowouts are very rare nowdays, tubeless tyres go down slowly (lucky for you Razz) where as older tubed tyres would go down with a sudden BANG! when that happens you're fooked. I think the tube would heat up from the friction and increace the pressure then it just explodes out!

G - My indicator had stoped working while i was on the motorway once, so i stuck my arm out to signal and force it nearly pulled it off Laughing never a good idea Razz

Consider myself very lucky never haveing had a flat (famous last words)

Funny you should say that but my mate has had 3 punctures in a similar ammount of time... but then he goes through a rear tyre every 2 months anyway...

Have you considered useing the green snot stuff?

Odd that kawasaki decided on magnetic rear wheels for the ninja 400 Razz

Fecking hell dude, the amount of punctures and tyre troubles you've had I'm beginning to wonder if Kawasaki make their wheels out of magnets. What condition was it in when it happened? Were you due a new one?

I think the force of the wheel spinning at that speed keeps the tyre 'out' until you are going a bit slower at which point things get decidedly wobbly. Worse with a front tyre!

Get some Ultra Seal, if you have a blow out, it will not stop you having it, but the release of air will be so slow, it wont be know where near as dangerous.

nah do what I did on my push bike when I was a kid , get SOLID tyres , never get a blow out on those babies (people used to stick nails in your tyres if you left it anywhere), though judging by the condition of the roads today you might blow out your spine.

Glad your ok ZXR!! I have always thought what it would be like at high speeds to have a blow out...

About the Ultra seal, would it be more dangerous because you wouldnt notice it like ZX, but instead you'd be riding around happily until the slightly less pumped tyre makes you fuck up a corner or something?

Last year when we were in France the valve on M1ke's rear tyre failed at 85mph in piss-wet conditions on the autoroute. Unfortunately as I was infront and completely tucked in to avoid the weather all his attempts to stop me failed and he had to follow me for the next 3 miles to the next toll booth going sideways with a completely flat tyre Laughing

When he finally pullled up, there was smoke coming off it Surprised

Will still go down, just wont blow out. You will notice it, if you cant notice a rear flat

Radials generally do not blow out. Is suspect from his description he did not have a blow out, just a puncture.

McJamweasal had something like Ultraseal in his tyres. Worked fine and hid the puncture well until he opened the bike up, and which point is lost a load of air. So if you like not knowing about a puncture until you get to speeds where such a puncture would be far more dangerous then go for the stuff.

All the best

Keith

Yer I think it was more of a puncture. Back end felt like it jumped up a bit then it just felt flat.
The tyre had ripped a little though but they might of just been where I rode on it flat? Confused

Somehow my midi moto (perfectly incapable of 100mph+)has gained a puncture Rolling Eyes

One sunday morning, went up and down the road a few times thinking WTF's with the handling, all over the road, only to stop and find a flat back tyre! Brick Wall

I use Ultraseal. I know people say it effects the handling but that's shit. you can push an 8mm drill bit into a new tyre and still ride the bike for the life of the tyre. In fact the only problem is that you don't know if you've got a half inch screw in your tyre till you spot it while cleaning or summat
