I've got my eye on this bike on ebay, as I want something cheap to repair, however its being advertised as a Honda CG125 cdi. I believe this is a cheap Hongdou imitation, could someone pleae confirm my thoughts?

If it is Hongdou, it will say Hongdou. That is a Honda CG125 of some vintage, the only part I don't recognise is the rear mudguard and tail light, which looks like it is from a CM125/ 250.

Having had a quick look about, it appears to be a parallel import.

Edit: actually, there seem to be a fair few of them about, and most of them don't say parallel import.

What is a parallel import?

It is a 2001 model, I've got a few more pics, but I thought CG125s didnt come with chrome mudguards for a few years now

I am having real trouble finding a 4 stroke 125 in my area I really want to get a bike ASAP as Ive passed my CBT and want to carry on before I forget what I'm doing.

Both of those bikes have/had damage which would prevent them going on the road.

This sounds like it needs very little doing, and for a 2001 CG125 that will run forever can't be bad.

But I will say there probably are better deals out there.

A big batch of 'old style' CG125s were imported a few years ago.

These were from somewhere in asia, had chrome mudguards etc and only four gears as well as a lower top speed.
General consensus is they should be avoided - believe the build quality was supposed to be worse as well.

That looks more like one of those hongdou bikes as opose to a Honda, but the picture is not that great so i cannot really be sure.

There's nothing wrong with these bikes, I have one myself. They're Japenese bikes made for the Japanese domestic market where anything retro and english is considered cool, which is why Honda havn't changed the design from the original CG. As for the speed, mine can keep up with my friend's '02 UK standard CG with no problems. After playing with the carb a few weeks ago it held 70pmh, although I was deep into the redline and the engine didn't seem to be enjoying it. Normally it will happily hold 60mph, peaking at about 65 in normal conditions.

I paid £600 for one as new with 1500 miles on the clock, but there were a couple going in Bike Trader for £800-£900 with 7000-9000 miles, both of which were sold. I was looking at them before finding mine on ebay.

afaik, the cheap hongdong version's exhaust is straight, and the honda version's exhaust points upwards at the end slightly
