I replaced the front pads on the VFR, the dot 4 level was too high afterwards because of the extra spacing, so I took some out. I took out quite a bit and it is now level with the ‘lower’ mark.
I don’t know, but I think I like the extra pull I get on the lever, but something tells me I shouldn’t have it like that.
Is it dangerous or just personal preference?

Cheers

It really should be filled to the top.. according to the manual.. but if it stops the bike when you pull the lever where your used to it i can't see theres a problem... dont let it get lower that tht though..

Pad change is a good time to bleed the brakes anyway tbh

If even a tiny bit gets lost out of the system when you are travelling, you might let air into it. I'd keep it medium-high if I were you! having no brakes at speed is not clever! Mr. Green

The extra pull is more than likely air, try pumping the lever a few times and does it go hard/not as far in? If so they need bleeding.

Also top the fluid up.. theres a good lad. Wink

New pads should lead to less lever travel, surely?

Unless as stated you have air in the system now causing you to compress it all before the brakes do anything.

If the pistons seals are leaking they will gradually seep out some of your fluid so you could end up with none in the resevoir and then you will suck in air everytime you squeeze the lever- Which could lead to the brakes basically not working at all.
