I've suffered from hayfever for years so always have a little bottle of eye drops with me. Something like opticrom or optrex (Approx 3 quid over the counter at a Chemist) will easily fit into a small pocket or even under your seat and is handy should you get something on your eye whilst riding. ____________________ Mellow Yellow

One of life's mysteries...
Why, when your preliferal vision is confined to quite a large area does EVERYTIME a fly manages to find it's way into the middle of your eye? ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Crush the fucker to death
Besides, if you see my helmet or anyone else on a big bike, youd never ever ride with your visor up. Im gonna get a sticker saying flyswatter on it.
As for glasses, i loathe riding in them, fucks with your peripheral vision. Sunglasses are quite naughty, ask Steve H about injuries in crashes. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Ok so most of you have had a close relationship with the odd fly or 2 and I do enjoy riding with my visor up every now and then.
However this thread got me to thinking..... Yeah yeah it happens every now and then.
A little while back I was following a truck in my car and must have been about 30-40 feet behind it, but it still managed to shoot a small stone out the back and leave a big dirty arsed crack in my windscreen. Hit the screen with a god almighty CRACK and I near shit meself.
So 2 questions I guess.
1. Any one ever been hit with a stone shot out from a tyre or heard about it?
2. If the response to q1 is no then how do you suppose a standard visor or glasses are goin to stand up to that sort of ammo??
My guess is not real ferkin good. |

It's worst when one goes right in one eye, and then while you're furiously blinking and trying to clear it, something else smacks you in the other eye. I was only doing about 40, so it was a case of hazard lights on and trying to get stopped without crashing, which was fun. (I've since learnt my lesson, keep the visor down at anything above about 25..) ____________________ I must not be a troll...

It bloody hurts! Got hit in the knee with a big huge one when I was over in Ireland a couple of years ago. I reckon my visor would have stopped it though.
My mate got a right good black-eye from a stone, he had "split windscreen" style goggles on at the time which also stopped it. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

However frustrating it is in this weather to ride with the visor down, I'd always recommend it. In dry conditions, gravel and other bits from the road do tend to fly up - and if you are hit directly in the eye at say 40mph you are more than likely going to get permanently blinded!
Secondly flies, wasps, bees etc are so annoying! Even when going slowly they will fly into your face - and make their way to your ear - especially if you are wearing a full face helmet. I have had a number that have somehow got under my visor (slightly open for ventilation purposes), then casually flown into my ear. For the rest of the journey you are accompanied with a buzzing sound and an interminable itch as the creature tries to extricate itself from your ear wax! ____________________ Using a mobile phone while driving a car should be made a capital offence! |

My dad got a brick from between the rear wheels of a big truck through the windscreen of his Dutton a few years ago. Kept driving and got home covered in glass and flies
A bloody great huge bee hit my chinguard on my helmet today- BANG- really surprised me. ____________________ Bikes: too many, too much for one man to maintain anyway. |
