background... Money wise when the insurance comes through ill have a little over £2k, im hoping compo will be about £5k when it arrives depending on length of physio and how long my knee has this tennis ball sticking out. insurance is around £2k alone for a 1.0l 106 so i'd have about £200 to spend on a shed, but with my dad (who's willingly running round like a blue arse fly to get me in car) using his insurance for me it looks a little more like £750 for insurance. i cant afford a bike and im hoping to get a £4k in summer!

The plan.....Buy a **car** for around £800 and insure it for the same coming to....£1600(roughly) keep the rest of the mullah(money to those who dont know) in case anything goes wrong with it etc as it will be around 1993/4. when my compo comes through the door whenever it may be im going straight to biketrader and buying myself a gixxer 600 and the private reg G11xer and keeping em both. i will have the best of both worlds. oh and if i got a bike now it would be a shitty two-smoke(no offence) and i want a bike with a little roar not meow!

Then put it in the bank, whats the point in getting a private reg plate, why people get them is beyond me to be quite honest unless they're loaded, and at 17 Jimbo you can hardly claim that. Why not save it to repair the Gixer when you send it down the road or something?

A grand will buy you a fair few tasty mods for the bike...full race system, rearsets etc...also, I'd personally would prefer not to have a registration that almost anyone would remember..."oh look, there's that tosser on the Gixer that cut me up the other day, let's kill him!"...oops!

oh, and /me buys old Gixer, puts on aftermarket plate reading "G1xxr", and goes speeding past every Gatso in town. Hmm...

Too true Tin, £1000 for a custom plate is nuts. You will regret it...maybe when you find something u coulda really spent the grand on.

Hi

Be careful with doing that. You may well get away with it, but technically the insurance company can turn round and say you are the main driver, and as the insurance was not in your name then get stuffed when it comes time to claim

All the best

An awful lot of people do that. If you query it with them, and explain what your doing, then they want you to have your dad as the policy holder, and you as the main driver. Only a little bit more expensive, but its legal.

But you dont build a NCB this way, and if you have any claims, you fuck your dads. I would rather pay a bit more if I could, and start building my own.

17... gixxer... hmm

you ever heard of 33bhp jim? its the reason a lot of us buy 400s or even 250s after passing our tests. 100-110 is the realistic top whack, it'll go up to 120 -130, but not so much fun.
restricted bikes do about 100, see the pattern emerging. very little difference.

so, if you scream past your local coppers at 150 on your "restricted" GSXR 600, do you think they might just get the arsehole, maybe check for restrictors. and that bike is a revvy one, 33bhp will kill it.

think about it.

also consider what speed your last accident was at, and what it did to you, and your NSR. imagine what you could do to yourself at 3 or 4 times the speed.

a fucking fast, good looking bike at 17 is all well and good, but it is a recipe for disaster. build up some more experience on something smaller before you go and buy a rocket.

also look at more fiendly bikes - cagiva, ducati, SV650. V twins are a lot moire forgiving and easier to ride, even V fours are bit more forgiving than a straight 4.

and no matter what you get, no one here will think any more or any less of you.

Robby what the hell are you on about, if you scream past a copper above a ton you've lost your licence, all restrictors do is stop you getting away.

Why are people so caught up in the frame of mind that if you stack it you need to worry about getting restrictors back in? If you stack it you're fucked anyway so having some restrictors in there is the least of your worries, especially if you're on TPO or TPFT.

Well if you scream past a copper at 150 do you reckon they will give a shit wether your bike is restricted or not they will ban you straight away...
