Can someone who knows tell me roughly how much it costs to get the fork seals changed when they are f*cked and leaking on a ZXR 400?

Think I saw on a previous thread for a VFR they're around £6 a pair, but to replace them would probably be an hours labour or so. That's a bit of a guess to be honest, am just trying to give an idea.

I changed mine myself on the ZXR. Not too hard.

Mate, I had mine changed on the zxr400 I had, they charged me 80 quid for labour and parts.

Use genuine seals, about 20 quid a pair.
If the dust seals look even slightly knackered, replace them too. Another 20 odd quid.
New oil, about a tenner but you won't use all of it.

As for labour it depends on the shop. When I had my VX800 I could change the fork seals and oil in 40 minutes, and that included the test ride. Normally I'd reckon 1-1.5 hours labour.

That reminds me why I bought the enfield! Two fork seals - £2.40, dust seals - £3.00, Oil £5. Granted I made some basic tools myself to get the old seals out but still....

Youll need a stand for the bike (obviouslly, to remove the forks) and a good strong bench vice to clamp the forks in whilst you hammer them apart.

Loosen off bolts on yokes, remove clippons, slide fork legs out.

Fork leg in vice, undo allen bolt in bottom of fork leg, drain all oil out:
Then yank the stantion out of the fork lower (takes a bit of force), change seals, put back together.

Hope that helps, costs about £20 all in. Inc oil.
